Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed SprouterCustomer Review: Back to buy more. Summary: 4 Stars
The siphoning problem is simple to solve. You just have to make sure you put enough water in the trays to rise above the little inserts. The siphoning won't start until you do. I do arrange the outlets over each other, to help wash the seeds away from the inserts. I don't like having sprouts grow in the little fins.
I start the seeds by soaking them in a small layer of water, too small to start the siphoning, then when I put in my nightly watering that rinses and starts the siphoning and so I don't have to transfer them.
This will be my third set in over 10 years (I think). The trays do break if you drop them often enough!LOL!
Customer Review: Works Great Summary: 5 Stars
Having read the other reviews about the product not draining well and problems with mold etc. I was skeptical. However, I find if you do NOT place the covers tightly on the drain holes, line up the drains when stacking the pieces and place something under the side of the sprouter on the opposite side of the drains (tipping the whole container slightly), it drains well and works beautifully. A little trouble, but I want to grow a good variety at once in small batches without it taking up a lot of room. The trade off is worth it.
PS you do have to be sure that the sprouts do not block the drain by growing under the drain cover
Customer Review: Yum Yum Yum! Summary: 4 Stars
This is great. It works wonderfully. The only problem I had with it was most likely my lack of attention to detail as I did think it would be much larger for the price. It isn't really that difficut to mimmick these conditions in a plastic tote with holes drilled and maybe a paper towel at the bottom. If you aren't usually a do it yourself person, this is a good way to sprout. Clear instructions and simple procedure. Lintels (as well as the alfalfa provided) work well in this product and they are one of our favorites. You eat something that is soil free and still living at the time! The food is less enzyme inhibitors and full of nutrients.
Customer Review: Easy to use but Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this particular sprouter because of good reviews & the fact that I could start 3 different sprouts at the same time. It is easy to use but the bad news is that not all the water drains out which, I found out, causes sprouts not to grow & in particular, broccoli sprouts to smell putrid & not sprout at all! I would rinse 6-7 times a day & have had marginal success with any of the sprouts that I use. Today I did some research & discovered that you absolutely must do evertying to make sure no water remains in the containers. I haven't given up but think I may go back to the old fashioned way of sprouting...a jar & cheesecloth!
Customer Review: Great product with a lot of flexibility Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this spouter for close to 9 years and continue to be very happy with it. The three tray design allows a great deal of flexibility. You can grow three different types of sprouts, rotate your crops so you have a fresh crop every couple of days, or fill all three trays with your favorite variety.
Rarely do I have seeds or roots clogging the drains as long as the drain caps are put on tightly before adding seeds. I'm sure every sprouter has one or two drawbacks but this one has been long lasting and nothing I have experienced will keep me from giving it less than 5 stars.
