Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed SprouterCustomer Review: Kitchen Sprouter Summary: 5 Stars
I love my new kitchen seed sprouter. We are always trying to improve the quality of the foods we take in. Recently seed sprouts have been introduced to us as "highly nutritional" and easy to grow using home sprouters. I feel better about using my home sprouter because I can control the quality of water and cleanliness in which they are grown. It takes only about 3 days to grow them, and it's fun to watch them change each day. My 2-year old grandaughter also thinks it's fun to watch them grow. We've added them to our salads and sandwiches & they are very tasty and delightful. Our friends have also received some of our "bounty" from the seeds grown & also enjoy them. I would recommend anyone who is interested in nutrition and EZ things to add to the diet that they buy this great product.
Customer Review: Sprouting since the 70's Summary: 3 Stars
Ran a Vegetarian Restaurant in the 70's. We'd re-purposed a fiberglass shower, added shelving with screens, and a timer for rinsing throughout the day. Previous to that, I'd done Sustainable farming; mason jar - punch holes in top - rinse seeds and drain twice a day. Decided on this "Newfangled" version but have been disappointed. Though following directions, it often does not want to drain between levels. Flimsy plastic cover cracked with little use but turns out it's a standard large coffee can top - easy to replace. Not bad for novices if you can get it to consistently siphon for you. Otherwise, just do a large glass jar (commercial spaghetti would work fine) with some holes punched in the top (lay on side throughout the process)!!
Customer Review: Good Basic sprouter Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good basic sprouter to start. As other reviewers pointed out the water may not drain out completely. We need to make sure excess water is drained out by tilting the sprouter. Other than that minor inconvenience, it seems to be doing the job as it supposed to do. I was able to get good sprouts using alfalfa, mung beans, Radish sprouting mix, fenugreek seeds. I tried to make some mustard sprouts with out any success so far. I bought two of these from Amazon, but somehow when I ordered the second one, it is listed as baby product. I am not sure why this is listed as baby product since I don't forsee to use this for making any baby recepies!! Do they want us to feed the babies with sprouts?
Customer Review: Just started sprouting Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first sprouting tray I've tried, and I liked it. Draining makes things easy, except like other reviewers, I noticed it doesn't drain completely. I think it would be hard to design one that did, though. It would have to be kind of asymmetrical, I imagine. Come to think of it, I'm going to try putting the drains all on the same side, and tilting the trays in that direction (except the water-catching bottom!) I found with paying attention, the sprouts came out fine. I did have a problem with the smaller seed I tried, but I think that was my fault. The seed was supposed to only get sun on the last day, but I kept it with the other seeds I was sprouting. Even that sprouted eventually.
Customer Review: My new obsession Summary: 4 Stars
This makes sprouting unbelievable simple. Even though I garden, I really do not think you even need to know anything about gardening. I would say this is easier than keeping a houseplant--just water once a day. It is a great way to get some fresh produce growing when it is too cold for growing in my greenhouse. Even my husband has taken a liking to it.
The only drawback is that I wish there were at least one extra tall tray for sprouting mung beans. They sprout fine in these trays but would really flourish in a slightly taller tray. I have contacted Victorio about this, but I am not sure one request will mean much to big company. Fingers crossed.
