Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorio VKP1013 Round Three-Tray Kitchen Seed SprouterCustomer Review: Sprouting made easy Summary: 4 Stars
Very nicely designed sprouter, gets the job done, and does with minimal effort.
Seeds sprout well in the top 4 trays without any problems. Most sprouts are good in the trays for about 3 to 5 days after which the sprouts grow out of space in the 1.5 inch tall trays.
Best part is the design of this sprouter. Water from the top tray trickles down in to the bottom trays with capillary actin. This reduces the unnecessary fuss and saves time on watering and maintaining the sprouts.
on the -ve side, the sprouter is made of thin plastic, feels brittle might not last long. Would have been a big plus if it was made stronger to survive dish washer, that would take care of cleaning part as well.
To sum up, this is THE product for beginners and every day sprouters alike. Can be used for a steady supply of sprouts in your kitchen, away from all the outside elements, and on top of that makes sprouting easy.
Customer Review: Not that versatile Summary: 3 Stars
One of the most compelling reasons to buy this sprouter is the promise that water will drip from one level to the next and the next, making usage easy. What I did not realize (and what perhaps others, like me, have not realized) is that the method of drip is not through a grating, but through a little cap on each level.
What this means is that, because the cap is about half an inch above the surface of each level, that sprouts will always be in about half an inch of stagnant water. I don't know about the rest of you, but almost everything I sprout requires no standing water whatsoever. And that kinda sucks because that makes it very hard to water, rinse, and drain the sprouts... at any rate, much less easy that the mason jars I use now.
I had to return the product. And though I don't have any need for it, I imagine that some people could really like this kind of sprouter. As for me (and people like me), I'm looking for something better.
Customer Review: Not bad Summary: 3 Stars
I was a bit disappointed to see that the sprouting trays have those same little plastic doohickeys that I lost one by one in my former 3-tray, then 2-tray, then 1-tray sprouter; in fact, that's the reason I ordered this one. I was hoping to avoid them this time around. I'll just have to be more vigilant with this one. Be that as it may, I'm reasonably satisfied. At first I thought that its small size was a drawback, but it keeps one from piling up too many sprouts at one time, and they're fresher if you're making smaller amounts more frequently.
I don't sprout a whole lot of different seeds and pulses: lentils (my favorite), mung beans, green peas, fenugreek (when I can get them) and alfalfa. Lentils haven't seemed to have a good sprouting percentage, but it's probably because I need to cut down on the amounts. I'll keep experimenting and once I get used to the smaller size, I'm sure I'll be willing to add another star. We shall see...
Customer Review: Good for small batches Summary: 4 Stars
This is a novelty sprouter, but for some types of seeds, it is really handy. I am currently growing rice, popcorn, and wheat grass for our indoor cats. If you use a lot of sprouts, half gallon mason jars are more practical; however, for small batches of specialty sprouts, this stackable sprouter is nice. It is especially useful for tall sprouts. Popcorn shoots get all tangled in mason jars. By leaving the cover off the top layer of this stackable spouter the plants can grow tall and straight.
The syphon system that allows the water to first collect and flood each layer before draining to the next lower level is simple, yet effective. Draining the water from the bottom reservoir is a bit of a nuisance. It is definitely not a one handed job. I find it best to unstack it and carry just the bottom tray to the sink to dump the used water.
Customer Review: Avid Sprouter gives Thumbs Down Summary: 2 Stars
I sprout a lot, and figured for the price I would try this three tray to see if I could safe a little counter space. The design leaves a bit of standing water in every tray, which is condusive to mold. the standing water can also give a bit of a tangy/not fresh taste to even larger bean sprouts as they never fully rinse off. It may work better for someone who lives in little/no humidity, but I live in houston and you really need to rinse your sprouts to keep them fresh and free of mold. Even 4x a day rinsing wasnt enough to get rid of standing water at the bottom.
I suggest canning jars with cheap screen netting you can get at a local drug store and a canning ring to attach them. You keep upside down in a dish drainer, it lets all the water out to sprout, and is easy to rinse.
