Customer Review: Great when it's not clogged

Downside: I bought one of these once, years ago and so I bought another one. Then I remembered what I hated about it the last time. The siphons clog practically every time you use it so the water won't drain until you remove the plug and clean out the seeds/sprouts. Sometimes it takes several cleanings to do that. If you're not in a rush to do this, I guess that's part of the process. If you want fast and simple - it's not going to happen. There are times it doesn't clog and have to be messed with, but mostly it does back up after the first day or two. The trays don't nestle as easily or evenly as I'd like. Be careful stacking them because if they aren't nestled correctly they slip and spill water, or fall over - making a mess.
Upside: It's great because you can grow three kinds of sprouts at once. I do love that about it. I love that I can put the trays directly in the fridge with the sprouts in them too. I wish you could buy extra lids, but saran wrap works okay too for the other two trays. I'm looking for other lids that might fit too. When it drains without clogging it's a dream. I love that I can set it in a window for light/greening the sprouts. It doesn't take up much space. It's lightweight, easy, easy, easy, easy to clean when the sprouts are gone. You can do one tray or all three. I often start different seeds at different times to ensure a steady supply of salad and sandwich ready sprouts. The clear sides make it easy to watch the sprouts growing and ensures even green.
Overall it's an okay sprouter. Just plan on spending 5-10 minutes a day with it. You DO need to water twice a day for the sprouts to grow. In hot weather or when I leave it in the sun I water three times a day - morning noon and late afternoon -
Tips for fast cleaning:
Hold the clogged tray under a running faucet and let the stream of water hit the cap/plug directly. Sometimes this is all it takes to clear it so it drains again.
Use a butter knife to pry the cap/plug up so you don't break the spokes and create a bigger problem.
Experiment with seeds. Some clog less than others.
Use warm, never hot or cold water, to make the seeds sprout. Warm water always makes plants grow faster, stronger, better. Not sure, but even big ag farms who use warm water experience this. Makes sense. I do better with hot showers too!
Use the drained water in the bottom tray to water houseplants or seedlings with. Mine love it!
