...THIS is a knife! This thing has me regretting that I already own a perfectly good knife set. I got it specifically to slice crusty home made bread ("Artisan Bread in Five..." get it) and couldn't be more pleased. It is a vast improvement over the serrated knife in the above-mentioned set, or any serrated knife I've ever used. Very sharp, very thin blade goes through hard crust and soft interior perfectly. No mashing, great control, thoroughly confidence inspiring. I expect to use it for other carving purposes and I can see why America's Test Kitchen is so high on Victorinox knives - amazing quality, especially at these prices.

We have had this knife for a few months now and LOVE it! I like to make bread and usually if I tried to cut bread still warm from the oven. it would just smoosh the loaf down. Not this knife!! Cuts perfect slices no matter the bread temp! Only thing worth mentioning is, this and any other Victorinox knives I have ordered are EXTREMELY sharp therefore very dangerous. I never put mine in the dishwater, but wash it right away so I don't forget it is in there and slice off a finger.and of course homes with small children should put far away from curious hands.I would definitely recommend this knife! Get one you, won't be sorry!

Believe it or not I have owned this knife for more than 30 years. The handle is different than this one and is BEGINNING to give out after being put in the dishwasher so many times. I had always used this knife for bread but my husband of 15 years uses it for everything! I have never had it sharpened and it still cuts amazingly well. Because of the handle begining to give out I will be ordering this one. Can't wait to see the improvements in the new handle and hope that I will be just as happy with this one...as things go, this will be the last knife of this type I will ever have it buy if it lasts another 30 years!

This is a real bread knife, not an imitation "do all". I work for a retail food company and the research chefs recommended this as a great professional knife. The cuts are sharp and tight, with no tearing of the bread, even soft french bread. The light weight makes this easy to handle and the price is right. I came home from work yesterday and my wife had cut up a baguette without using the cutting board. Not a problem with the old knives. But now I have numerous cuts in the countertop. Who cares, the knife did great!!! I'm switching to marble this summer anyway...

This knife is so sharp that it can go through almost anything. After using a Henckles 8" for years and struggling to slice homemade bread evenly, I purchased a special guide but even at that it was a hassle. I finally broke down, dumped the Henckles and on Cook's Illustrated magazine's recommendation, purchased this beauty. I no longer need the guide. This is so sharp that it slices perfectly, evenly and the extra length makes it so very easy to get through wider loaves. I have several Forschner/Victorinox fibrox-handled knives and each and every one is superb. THIS one is outstanding.
