This knife set seems to do the trick. I have yet to use the largest knife, but have used the 8" and the small knife a number of times. It appears that the 8" may be losing some of it's sharpness already, although I haven't really paid to much attention to whether it is the knife or what I am cutting. The small knife is quite sharp and works great for cutting tomatoes, fruit, etc. Overall, I believe that these are a good purchase if you do a lot of chopping but are not much of a chef. R.H. Forschner by Victorinox are great knives. There are plenty of chef-grade knives (such as Global, WÜSTHOF or other), but unless you are a chef or someone for whom the sky is the limit when it comes to your kitchen, these knives are fine. Most of us cannot afford to stock our kitchens with "the best." Finding very good quality that is affordable versus professional quality that requires a second mortgage works for most of us.
These would make a great house warming present.

Did all the comparison shopping (Cook's Illustrated, Amazon community) and landed here (with the Kapoosh knife block which is stupendous) and am such a happy cook. Also ordered the boning knife. With these knives I realized I never had a really sharp knife before and what a difference it makes. The paring knife peeled kohlrabi (one of my favorite raw veggies) like going through butter instead of wood. Can't believe I waited so long to get the right tools to be a happy cook.Customer Review: Great kitchen knives

My son needed some new kitchen knives for his apartment. We did not want to spend a lot since he is still a college student but we did want a decent set of knives because he does enjoy cooking. These knives were perfect. They were reasonably priced and the quality was excellent! They are comfortable in the hand and the knives that come in the set are what a basic cook would need. Victorinox Forschner 3pc Chef's Set 46892
I was in the market for new knives and have never had a "good" set of knives. I did some research and read that Forschner were very good without being expensive. So I tried them. I just love these knives. They are so sharp, cut, slice and chop so well, and are not heavy or clumsy. I am so happy with them I also bought the steak knives and am just as happy with them.
