Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Victorinox 40520 Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's KnifeCustomer Review: Absolute Best Knife for $30 Summary: 5 Stars
This knife compares favorably to my much more expensive Japanese knives. It's super sharp, hold it's edge, and the handle provides excellent grip. It seems to slide through tougher, larger objects easier than any other knives. I believe this is due to the entirely polished blade surface. No other knives possess this feature. The blades are likely made from the same sheet steel as Victorinox pocket knives. This is definitely a good thing as the steel quality is excellent, and the large volumes Victorinox buys and processes keeps the prices on these knives super low. The Victorinox knives are proof that you can manufacture high quality products at reasonable prices (in this case very reasonable) without resorting to manufacturing in third world countries.
Customer Review: Good, but a bit overhyped Summary: 3 Stars
I've used this knife for about a year and a half now.
Pros:
- The factory edge was very sharp, but I've used sharper
- Handle feels great in my hand
- Decent heft, rigidity
- Angle and curve of blade are excellent for performing more advanced kife skills
Cons:
- When cutting foods such as potatoes, the blade becomes unusually "sticky" -- Food sticks to the sides easily and can be very annoying
- Black handle is fading a bit, getting uglier
- Does not fit in standard chef's knife slots in standard blocks (I've read that this is because the blade is nonstandard size)
If you're on a budget, but want a quality tool, this is not a bad choice. Just don't buy into all the hype.
Customer Review: Best stamped blade! Summary: 5 Stars
I have several forged blades including comparable Wusthof and Henckels costing upwards of $120. I prefer this one cuz it's lighter and incredibly sharp. I ordered this as a gift for my brother who's a great cook.
I don't know how Victorinox managed to make this blade so affordable, durable, well made, and a complete pleasure to use. The knife is very affordable, and probably the best deal in open stock knifes. I do, however, prefer working with a smaller utility knife - but out of all the chef's knifes, I think this one is the best. Yes, I know it's not a forged blade, but it's also much more affordable and incredibly sharp.
Buy it. It's only $30 and is far superior to any other stamped blade you'll spend your money on.
Customer Review: Excellent Knife!! Great service!! Summary: 5 Stars
I first heard of this knife in a cooking magazine that rated it the best for price and performance. I've been looking for a good knife but they are SO expensive. When I read about this one, I wanted to try it. I'm so glad I did!! This Chef's knife is fantastic! It cuts through meat like butter and chops vegetables beautifully! I am so thrilled to finally have a great knife! It should have cost $25 but I tried Amazon where I always get the best prices and sure enough I found it on Amazon sold by Allsparetools.com for even less (even with shipping)! The service was great also! I received the knife within a few days of ordering. I would order from Allsparetools.com again! Overall - a great experience! Fantastic product and great service!
Customer Review: a must-have chef's knife Summary: 5 Stars
[...] steered me in the right direction when they included this chef's knife as a component of the winning "best budget kitchen knife set." I've now used it consistently since the beginning of October, and each and every use is a pleasure to work with such a fine piece of equipment.
Razor sharp out of the packaging, the Forschner seems light-weight enough to handle easily without resulting in the feel of a cheap/budget knife. The composite Fibrox handle is not only good-looking, it ensures that the knife won't slip and provides for safety.
Pay mind to the other reviews here for this product- you won't be let down. Smile while confident that you have a top-notch product here at an extremely affordable price.
