Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vic Firth French Rolling PinCustomer Review: Simple, but I Like It! Summary: 5 Stars
What can you say about a single, oblong piece of maple wood? Not much, except that it works!
This rolling pin is shaped and balanced very well, so it feels very natural to use. Probably the simplest and also the best rolling pin I have ever owned.
Note: I do recommend treating the wood with mineral oil or something similar. It was a little dry right out of the box.
Customer Review: Favorite Style Summary: 5 Stars
The Vic Firth French Rolling Pin quickly became my favorite tool for rolling out doughs, especially pie crusts.
For more than 40 years, I used a standard style pin with ball bearings and hand-holds on each end. The Vic Firth rolling pin is lighter and easier to handle; making it faster to turn out the exact thickness of dough needed. Why did I not purchase one Review: SMALLER DIAMETER THAN EXPECTED Summary: 4 Stars
I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS INEXPENSIVE ROLLING PIN. THE WOOD IS WONDERFULLY SMOOTH. I WAS SURPRISED, THOUGH, TO SEE THAT THE DIAMETER OF THE ROLLING PIN WAS SO MUCH SMALLER THAN MY TRADITIONAL ROLLING PIN WITH HANDLES. THE LENGTH SEEMS TO BE ABOUT RIGHT. I HAVE YET TO USE THE PIN, BUT I'M CONCERNED THAT THE DIAMETER MIGHT MAKE FOR MORE WORK.
Customer Review: The essential rolling pin Summary: 5 Stars
The pictures don't do justice to this rolling pin. The wood is dense and smooth (so sticking is not a problem) and has a nice heft in your hands. It's a perfect size -- big enough for a good sized pie crust and not so large it's unweildy. If you want to really get a feel for your dough, you need a pin like this rather than one with handles.
Customer Review: Vic Firth Rolling Pin used once so far. Summary: 4 Stars
We (my wife) used the rolling pin today for the first time, and she said it gave her more control to roll the pie crust evenly (closer to the diameter of the pan with less waste.) It feels so different in her hands after using a regular rolling pin for 37 years that she needs to get used to it. All in all it seems like a good product.
