Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vic Firth French Rolling Pin

Customer Review: Second one as good as the first
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the second Vic Firth I've purchased, the first one was very nice but I left it at our last kitchen, so when time to get a new one, why not get the same one. It is light wieght, which helps with getting tired hands. I used to us a regular cylindrical rolling pin and had a lot of trouble getting things even, an round or square as the case may be. Somehow the shape of this one helps me obtain a uniform thickness and shape.

Customer Review: Nothing fancy, but gets the job done very well
Summary: 4 Stars

It is just what it looks like, a shaped piece of wood, but it does a great job in rolling out pie crusts, pastries, etc. Not sure why Amazon decided to send it in a HUGE box, though. Regardless, a very handy rolling pin, only caveat is that, unlike stone pins, it doesn't weigh very much, so, depending on the application, you may have to apply some force of your own (not a big deal, just different if you're used to a heavier pin).

Customer Review: Another great pin
Summary: 5 Stars

I use this pin for rolling out pie crusts. Granted you can use it for more then pie crusts, for me this is more comfortable to use and get the desired thickness. The shape itself kind of helps in rolling dough out into a circle. I also bought the other maple pin by Firth w/o handles and use it for all other doughs; biscuits, cinnamon rolls, cookie dough etc. Both are great to use and the cost is reasonable enough to own both!!

Customer Review: Simple and elegant (also inexpensive)....
Summary: 5 Stars

I believe this company's other claim to fame is the manufacture of wooden drum sticks. When I have the time (and the patience) I am going to test this $9 pin against my $44 silicone pin. I suspect this one, due to its high degree of maneuverability, may come out on top.

Do remember to have very clean hands though and keep them dry. Sweaty palms will force you to adjust the salt in your recipe. :o)

Customer Review: A must for any drummer/baker/wood enthusiast
Summary: 5 Stars

Not to be used on drum heads.
I didn't realize how long I'd been waiting for the item that would tie together my fervent twin interests in percussion and pastry. Every time I roll out puff pastry, pizza crust or cookie dough, I marvel at this elegant tool and laugh a little at the vaguely stupid confluence of Vic Firth's hands and my leisure life.
I love this rolling pin.
