Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vetoquinol Viralys Powder 100 Gram JarCustomer Review: Beats vet prices hands down, and my cat loves it! Summary: 5 Stars
So shortly after adopting my kitty, I took him to the vet to find out he had feline herpes. He used to have these horrible cough/wheezing fits, and often suffered from goopy eyes and labored breathing. Though there's really not much they can do for a cat with herpes, my vet recommended giving him this powder twice a day to alleviate some of the symptoms.
First of all, my cat eats this stuff with absolutely zero complaint. I sprinkle a scoop over some wet food in the morning and at night, and he gobbles it right up. In addition, he hasn't shown any herpes symptoms since I've been giving him this powder. His breathing can still be labored at times, but only when he's been running around and playing hard. For the most part, he lives a normal, healthy cat life. No more wheezing fits or goopy eyes!
But the best part is that while my vet charged me $40 for the 100g container, I can get it here on Amazon for almost a quarter of that price. The 100g goes a long way, but I definitely didn't want to be paying $40 for it each time. I'm so glad I checked online for it!
This stuff is great! Both kitty and owner are very satisfied!
Customer Review: Amazing!!! Summary: 5 Stars
One of my cats suffers terribly when she gets sick with the feline herpes virus. In the past, we've dealt with it by giving her oral and topical antibiotics, antiviral eye drops to treat corneal ulcers, and medication to stimulate her appetite. Aside from the hundreds of dollars spent on medications and trips to the vet, it was heartbreaking to see her literally gulping for air because she couldn't breath through her nose. She recently started sneezing again, which signals that she's getting sick again. I immediately started giving her and our other cats 250mg lysine twice daily. Right away I noticed that she stopped getting worse, and in a day or two she was noticeably better. It took about a week to be totally symptom free. Our other cats stayed healthy too. I mix one scoop (250mg lysine) in with their wet food in the evenings and they devour it. In the morning they get a treat sold here called "vetri-lysine plus" that's also 250 mg and they love that as well. For what it's worth, Viralys also makes a more expensive maple-flavored gel that our cats wouldn't touch.
Customer Review: Much better than the gel type Summary: 4 Stars
I recommend this product for two reasons.
1. Less waste: My cat really doesn't like the gel version of this supplement. I mix his lysine into his wet cat food, and if it's the gel stuff half the time he won't eat it, wasting the meds. But he doesn't seem to mind or notice the powdered version in his food. Plus, there's less packaging to throw away. So less product and packaging waste. Nifty!
2. Easier to keep track of what's left: Using the gel pump is convenient and far cheaper than using the syringes (not to mention far less packaging), but I could never tell how much was left so I never knew when to re-order. Not a problem with this stuff.
The only quibble I have is that the little scoop in the package is just long enough that regularly it catches on the inside of the lid when I'm opening it, sending a fountain of powder all over the table or stove where I'm mixing up my cat's food. Not fun. But a few minutes with a sharp instrument fixes that. :-D None the less, I'd like to see it come out of the factory "surprise sprinkling" free.
Customer Review: My cat loves this stuff AND it helped to cure his ocular herpes. Summary: 5 Stars
I do fully recommend this product. My cat had both eyes healing very slowly with the very expensive drops and ointment from the animal optometist. He had ocular herpes severely. The poor guy even had to have an eye operation.
I started giving him Lysine from a pill's contents, but he could detect it in his food. With this powder, I don't even have to mix it in the moist food completely, he justs chows down as usual.
His eyes are clear now and the meds are for usage once a week only, for maintenance. There was a very distinguished improvement in his healing after the Lysine supplementation. I don't know why the vet didn't educate me about using L-Lysine to help stop the progression of the herpes virus. It worked very well, I will buy the big bottle next time!!!
Stay tuned, I have a feeling that I can discontinue the meds completely and rely on the Lysine to keep the herpes outbreaks at bay. When they run out, I will try the Lysine only and see if I am right.
Customer Review: Sneezing Cats? Start Viralys Summary: 5 Stars
We have a 5 cat household. Two of them are ferals, all of them rescues and one of the ferals has Chlamydia and is prone to upper respiratory infections. Over the past year, I have found that the use of Viralys has saved me several trips to the vet for simple herpes viruses or "colds" that can spread from cat to cat. Viralys fed to all the cats and sprinkled on their wet food daily during sneezing bouts I have found to work wonders. It seems to stop anything from spreading from cat to cat (even if two of them are sneezing) and to promote natural healing of the infection.
I just want to mention that I am not talking about a cat who is sneezing green mucous and needs to be seen and be treated with antibiotics. I am talking about cats who have not reached that stage yet and have simple and sometimes frequent sneezes (just like we humans do when we are catching a cold). Viralys gives the cats a simple immune system boost. For our household ... it works!
