Have used this effective and inexpensive product for years. Keeps the balance of a bottle of good, even older, red fresh for 1-2 days. White in the refrigerator a couple of days longer. These little things work wonders. I've been able to "keep" reds, whites, even Cava using these little miracles. You save money, and your taste-buds, using these as opposed to using an old cork. I have had this system for at least 2 yrs and it has worked very well for me. I find that it keeps the wine fresher for a longer period as long as it is properly refrigerated. I recently bought the Vacu Vin kit from the local grocery and it worked fine. The only problem was that the kit contained only one stopper. I use the extra stoppers for multiple, opened wine bottles.
The excess air is removed and the wine stays fresher longer.

The Vacu Vin system is the best available. Pay attention the next time you're in a bar--they're using these, too! My husband doesn't like wine and these stoppers enable me to have a glass when I want it without feeling compelled to chug the entire bottle at once. :)
