These stoppers require that you hold the pump more perpendicular above the stopper and then hold the seal more firmly. They aren't as forgiving as the old stoppers for when you hold it at a slight angle. Its frustrating when technology moves backwards, and then they call it progress. This company used to have a better product line with their containers as well. However, this product might still be better than the practically non-existent alternatives. This product deserves three stars, but I'm giving it two stars because so many of the other reviews are skewed way too high.Customer Review: These do not make a tight seal. I thought these would work like a cork only better. They don't. From what I've read, you should not use these unless you also have "the pump". The directions on the package and on the web site indicate you can use these by themselves. However, the directions are not very precise or clear. I cannot get them to stay in the bottle, to "pump" or make any type of seal. They just sit on top of the bottle. In fact, when I try to push them down into the bottle, they slide right back up! Since we drink a lot of wine, we thought this would be a great item to have to prolong the shelf life of opened bottles. They came with no instructions at all and not a clue as to how to use them. They have been trying to figure out how to use them but can't see any improvement in the quality of the wine in the bottles we are using them in. The Vacu Vin Stoppers/sealers used in companion with the vacu vin pump, are a great helper when you open a nice expensive bottle of wine but won't drink it all. This stoppers, will prevent your wine from becoming stale and will vacuum seal the bottle for another day or two. Always remember not to let the "cork dry" otherwise your wine will suffer. Place the bottle in the wine compartment at the adequate temperature, and enjoy in the next few days.Customer Review: Useful recorking

So far these are working very well. Used to have trouble recorking wine bottles and wine would go bad quickly. Also, the difficulty of re-uncorking and re-recorking usually destroyed the corks, so we didn't finish off the bottles. So far these have made recorking quick and easy. I bought these additional stoppers along with the Vacu Vin 3-Piece Wine Saver Gift Pack, White so that we could have additional wine bottles open at the same time.
