Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vacu Vin Pineapple Easy Slicer, set of 3 blade sizes.

Customer Review: I stayed away from pineapples before
Summary: 5 Stars

I love pineapples but I stayed away from buying whole ones because they are such a mess to cut and I always end up with nasty looking rings with some of the exterior fuzz on them. This gadget is unbelievably easy to use. There are three different size corers depending on the diameter of your pineapple. You cut the top of of the fruit, place the corer on the cut surface and very easily turn the handle. The thing cuts like butter through the pineapple and gives you a spiral cut of the pineapple which you can the separate (but it is more fun for everyone to grab a piece off of it). Also, the pineapple carcus is really clean and you can put fruit, rum, whatever, in it to serve. This is a no-brainer. I don't see why the markets don't just put these out near the pineapple displays!

Customer Review: Decent Product
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this model instead of the metal one at the same price for the option of having three "blade" sizes. This came in handy, as I used 2/3 at the same time, for two different sized pineapples. Having one size would have been adequate for both, but the larger blade provided me with a better yield than the medium would have for a larger pineapple. The product is easy to use and core width seems to be more enough for even larger sized pineapples.

The two drawbacks to this products are:
1) It is plastic - you get what you pay for
2) The detachable handle comes off easily when pulling the cut pineapple out of the shell.

Overall, for the price, this is a fair product. I have since seen like model at the grocery stores for like prices.

Customer Review: Company Won't Stand Behind Poorly Manufactured Product
Summary: 1 Stars

I used my Vacu Vin about three times before the handle broke off, and contacted the company through their website about a replacement handle. After two weeks I received no response and emailed them a second time.

This time I received a hasty response as follows, "I have responded back to you 2 weeks ago and told you that we do not have extra pineapple slicer handles nor do we offer a warranty on this item."

As far as the three times that I was able to use the slicer, it sometimes worked nicely, and sometimes mangled the pineapple. There was always a lot of wasted fruit with this device since it is made to accommodate smaller pineapples as well as larger.

Save your money on this uni-tasker and practice your knife skills.

Customer Review: Memories of Hawaii While in Michigan
Summary: 5 Stars

Alright, I don't know how really fresh the pineapple is in Michigan, but they sell it at the grocery store. My family just loves fresh pineapple, (the canned stuff can stay in the can), but it is such a hassle to try to clean and core and slice the pineapple. NOT WITH THIS gadget!

In less than one minute, I can peel, core, slice and serve fresh pineapple rings, with very little mess to clean up afterwards. Even better, the shell remains intact for use as a fancy serving bowl along with the watermelon bowl! We are having fresh pineapple more often, and the memories of the Hawaii trip are discussed each and every time the perfect pineapple is served.

With three different blade singes, almost all pineapple sizes are covered. A great little gadget for the price!

Customer Review: Save money by getting this totally cool product...
Summary: 5 Stars

If you like fresh pineapple (and why else would you be looking at this item if you don't?), but don't like paying the extra bucks for buying pre-cored pineapples that sit in juice/water for who knows how long before you get it home, then this is your answer! With this, you get to buy your fresh, whole pineapple (cheaper than pre-prepared at the store), and when you're ready for eating it, just slice off the top, bottom (although I don't know if slicing off the bottom is necessary) and core away with a simple twist of your wrist. Ta-da! A spiral of fresh, cored, pineapple is prepared in a minute. Fabulous. The hardest part is holding the pineapple steady (I have small hands) while coring and slicing...not a dealbreaker.
