I'm not a big kitchen gadget person (that would be my wife!), but this pineapple slicer is the best thing since sliced bread! It's so easy to use and the results are excellent - the mess you normally get from slicing pineapples is completely eliminated, not to mention you can slice an entire pineapple in less than a minute.
Some tips:
1. Make sure to use downward pressure until you get to the bottom of the pineapple. Then without using any downward pressure, turn the slicer a few more times. This will separate the fruit that you just cut from the bottom of the pineapple shell.
2. When pulling up to remove the fruit from the pineapple, pull up slowly while still turning the pineapple slicer. This will allow you to remove all of the fruit without it flying everywhere (my pain you're gain!).
If you like fres pineapple, I guarantee you will love this pineapple slicer!

My kids (9 & 5) decided they wanted to give this item for Father's Day since my husband liked fresh pineapple so much. Between breakfast in bed and this gift, my husband said it was the best Father's Day to date. He has eaten 1-2 fresh pineapples a week since. He LOVES it.
The only complaint I have with this product is that sometimes the handle pops off when trying to pull out the core (the suction factor of the cored pineapple rings is quite strong) but the handle must come off so that you can get the pineapple rings off once cut...a slight design flaw, but one that is tolerable for the reward of fresh pineapple!! My husband even likes drinking the juice right out of the pinapple!!
I would recommend this for most pineapple lovers (only drawbacks is you have to be strong to pull out the cut pineapple and the handle popping off issue). Great product overall.

Overall, I think this product is pretty useful and far less work than cutting pineapple with a knife. I purchased the version with multiple cutting sizes to accommodate different sized fruit. If you find cutting pineapple a chore and have room for one more gadget in your kitchen, you will probably appreciate this product. I really like this product for the quickness and ease of "gutting" most of the fruit from a pineapple. However, it's effectiveness does depend on how ripe your fruit is and whether the pineapple is firm or soft. If your fruit is pretty ripe and softening, then this product is a little bit messy and may "crush" your pineapple. If your fruit is quite firm, you may feel like you're getting an arm workout. But either way, with this item you can be snacking on the the heart of the pineapple fruit in two or three minutes - which is pretty cool.

I love fresh pineapple, I could eat it everyday happily. I however hate cutting up pineapples and hate spending $5 for a precut one at the grocery. I realized my local warehouse store sells pineapples for around $2.99. Purchased a couple and ended up waiting for my husband to cut them up for me. I saw this and thought why not try it. I thought it would be hard to do, messy, not actually work... WRONG WRONG WRONG. This thing is amazing. I love that it comes with three different sizes, the medium was perfect for my pineapple today, quick slice off the top and in less then a min of very easy turning I had the whole pineapple sliced and removed leaving me with a great pineapple "bowl" to use for a pinacolada, fruit salad bowl, or my planned use: to serve up my fresh pineapple sorbet. We eat a lot of pineapple in our house and I always thought I was managing just fine with my sharp knives and why would I need something like this vacu vin.. and then I tried it. I should have bought this thing years ago. So easy to use with three separate sizes to fit whatever size pineapple you purchase. The small size slicer is quite small and certainly I would never buy a pineapple that wimpy so I probably won't get much use out of that one.
I can prepare a whole pineapple now in a few quick simple steps and there is very little wastage of the fruit. The empty shell of the pineapple after using the slicer makes a nice little presentaion for fruit, sorbets and ices etc. People think you've gone to trouble in presenting your desserts and all you are doing is using up the left-overs from the vacu vin! Really like this, would recommend it.
