Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Vacu Vin 4882350 Stainless Steel Pineapple Easy SlicerCustomer Review: Perfect Solution to Pineapple Prep, Yaay! Summary: 5 Stars
If you like pineapple, you are going to Love this. So often when I'm at the store I find myself eyeballing the pineapples and debating whether I want to make the commitment to prep it later. More often than not, I don't want to bother with it. And when I do buy the pineapple, it will usually end up rotting for that very reason. I'm not lazy, I just don't like dealing with the pokey pineapple, the hard core and the mess.
I just tried it, just now, and I am thrilled! It's completely effortless. You just twist the bottom of the slicer into the pineapple until it's all the way in, then pull and out come perfectly sliced pineapple rings! It's really that easy, I can't believe it. When you are done there is a little pineapple juice left in the bottom to drink and perhaps a little--not much--meat left to scrape out and eat with a spoon. And then you have a beautiful pineapple for drinks or serving vessel for tropical stir frys or raw foods, anything you can think of, brilliant! This year we will be eating a lot more pineapple thanks to this. It's stainless steel, sturdy and essential for anyone who loves pineapple.
Customer Review: Quick way to get you pineapple slices. Summary: 5 Stars
After reading some of the other reviews, i took the chance and purchased one. I've used it once on 2 medium sized pineapples. EZ to use & delivers a great continuous slice. It's very important to make sure you line it up properly with the core.
After cutting off the top, I lined up the core & starter turning the device. It was a little difficult at first, then I realized it would be easier of i was able to put more strength/pressure on the slicer. I got my step ladder & went to work and before i knew it, i had my pineapple slice ready to dice up & put into the dehydrator. [it's dehydrating as I write] A nice bonus of this procedure is the fresh leftover pineapple juice. Mother Nature at her best.
Clean up requires close inspection that no pineapple strands are left in the mechanism. Wash, Rinse, dry and your ready for your next pineapple. The tops of the pineapples were potted in hopes of growing my own.
If you Like fresh pineapple, save yourself the hassle and buy this ez slicer-it's worth it.
Customer Review: Not quite as described Summary: 3 Stars
While the slicer is sharp and does the job of slicing well, other claims about its effectiveness are exaggerated. Unless there is some secret technique for using this tool (no instructions are provided) it cannot perform as described. Apart from leaving a lot of fruit around a rim when used on a larger pineapple, which can be addressed by using smaller fruits, it cannot extract the slices easily, and it certainly cannot extract clean slices and preserve the shell at the same time. Once at the bottom the slicer will continue its downward drive unless pulled up and rotated to separate the spiral from the bottom which usually makes a mess. To retrieve a clean spiral that would leave a hollowed out shell is impossible with this tool. The thin slices will fall apart before they can be released and the bottom is for all practical purposes out of reach of any other tool. The only way to do this cleanly is to bore through the fruit after cutting off the bottom, which defeats the purpose described as one of its features.
Customer Review: Ridiculous how easy this is Summary: 5 Stars
This product seems gimmicky. I'm not actually a fan of such specialty products. My kitchen is cluttered enough.
But this just really works. It cores the pineapple and spirals it just like the picture shows.
It's not hard to use because it goes deep slowly - it takes a lot of turns to get through the whole pineapple. That means you turn a lot, but each turn takes very little effort.
I stopped buying pre-cut pineapple. This is so easy, it's not even a hassle. So I don't see the point of buying pre-cute pineapple again. And I usually shop in a shee-shee manhattan corner yuppie grocery where everyone buys convenience foods at ridiculous markups. Not worth it. This product paid for itself in about two pineapples worth. No kidding. Two trips of buying a pineapple instead of the precut saved me enough to justify the price of this. And it doesn't really take up that much room. Also very easy to clean.
Customer Review: Great Tool for my Kitchen Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this product online after I saw it being sold at Williams Sonoma. This metal pineapple corer makes slicing and dicing pineapples easier than ever. When I use it at parties, people are always impressed with it. If you do not like your pineapple in rings or small diced squares, this product won't be good for you. You don't get the same big chunks you would cutting a pineapple traditionally. When finished, you do get a nice shell to serve more fruit out of and there is left over pineapple juice. The only downfall is that there is still a lot of edible fruit left on the edges of the remaining pineapple shell and it seems like a waste to me, so i usually end up going back and trying to salvage those remaining parts after I have successfully cored the pineapple. All in all, this saves you a lot of time and takes the headache away from traditionally slicing a pineapple.
