The heat is ON!
With summer's 2010 heatwave index in full blast nearly everyday since June, I've been basking in the scorching heat profusely sweating without an air conditioner. My bedroom window, unlike most typical windows, opens sideways as oppose to vertical. With intense search in the cyberspace world day after day all the while sweating up a massive storm, every portable air conditioning unit weighs approx. 75 lbs. (34.12 kilograms) which a petite person like myself, who does not work-out, is unable to physically HAND carry this gargantuan machine up one flight of stairs in a stifling hot house. I'm certain that no man who secretly admires me is willing for either chivalry or compassion straight from sincerity to help me physically hand carry a gargantuan machine up one flight of stairs in a stifling house. (Sorry, no short cuts... as there is no elevator)!
In my search efforts via Amazon. com, I've encountered Unistar DF158 Multi-functional Portable Air Cooler by Kaito Electronics which shipping weighs 11 lbs., however the actual machine is only 7 lbs. It does the job for a small room with the windows open and drops the temperature at least twelve degrees less. My petite couture is capable to lift seven pounds, without compliant. Thankfully, water and ice are the only tools needed as there is no hose attachment to a window required. The water and ice lasts for approx. eight hours breaking through the unbearable summer heatwave of the night, which allows me to sleep with ease. The multi features of air purifier, humidifier, cooler, with timer plus oscillation option and natural or sleep modes are conveniently functional in usage. I rate Kaito Electronics, Inc. four starts as the water tray is non-detachable to drain water with a small knob allows drainage which is inconveniently messy. There is no remote control. I do not recommend this air cooler for gargantuan rooms as it does not serve well.
