My cable came with software (even though the product description explicitly states that it does not come with software), but I did not install it. Without the software, the phone shows up as a USB Mass Storage Device, and that's all I need anyway.
The cable itself works great. It's a little stiff to plug into and unplug from your phone at first, but it seems to be loosening up (which is a good thing at the moment). An added bonus is that it will also charge your phone's battery as long as it's plugged in, which if anything, makes this a really cheap and convenient charger.

I purchased this item to help me download photos from my LG Trax cell phone to my computer. It did not work. The AT&T phone people next told me that I needed software to go with the cable in order for it to perform. I re-ordered another cable with software and cannot get that to work either. The software allows you to do many things but it doesn't seem to give me the one ability that I need which is to download photos from my phone to the computer. If anyone knows how to do this and if either of these items will work then please write another review and help me out. Thank you. LANCustomer Review: It works!

So I got it without any software in an opaque plastic mail bag. I opened it up, uncoiled it and connected it to my phone. It was a tight fit but snug. I connected the other end to the USB port on my computer and the phone made a noise. The screen said "connected as mass storage media" and the computer prompted me on whether I wanted to view pictures, play music or open the containing folder - So it works just like a flash drive or USB hard drive. Also the phone charges on it. The OS on my computer is Windows XP. No downloads or software necessary.Customer Review: dont know if it works

The screen on my LG shine phone is broken but the phone still turns on. I bought the usd cord with hopes of transfering some data off my phone. When i plug the phone into my computer i am prompted with the option of searching and downloading a driver for the USB cable and/or phone. A drive was found and downloaded. However my phone will not show up in "my computer." It would be nice if all you had to do was plug the dang thing and it showed up. I dont know if it works. It would be nice if the cable came with instructions.Customer Review: Great Product!

I bought this with the intention of hacking my Shine to play some games on it but ended up just using it for charging/adding music. I had the SD adapter but seem to have lost it (after i bought this) and i have to say, if you are using an SD adapter to add media to your phone...buy this instead. It makes things so much easier and a lot faster! I haven't tried to use it for hacking yet so no info there but for just an average consumer with no hacking intentions, this is a really great product!
