Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Tupperware Cold Cut Keeper, JadeCustomer Review: Love it, but not for arthritic hands Summary: 4 Stars
I have four or five of these, from at least two different decades. I love them, but the seals are difficult. Here's what you need to know about sealing the box:
Contraindications:
If you've got serious arthritis or other problems with your hands, you'd be better off with a different box. Let me suggest, for example, Tupperware's slightly smaller Modular Mates Rectangle 1, which has an easier seal. Please don't order this for Great-Grandma unless you're certain it's appropriate.
Getting the seal on the first time:
Always start at one corner and work your way around. Call that corner #1. Seal #1, then s-l-i-d-e down the side to seal #2, then around to #3, and then down to #4. The last corner will not want to seal, so reach back to #2 (the entirely opposite corner) and pop it off. This will give you just enough reach to get #4 down. Last, re-seal corner #2, which won't be nearly as difficult. (It's also easier to do this if it's a warm day so the plastic is a little more flexible.)
Solution for worst-case scenario:
Find a local Tupperware rep, or one of the little stores they have at the mall, and ask a real professional to get this on the first time! The first time is definitely the hardest.
Making it easier for next time:
Normally, I store containers and lids next to each other, but not sealed shut. However, you'll likely find that if you store this (absolutely, perfectly DRY) container with the seal all the way on for a few weeks, then it seems to 'stretch' slightly, which means that it's much easier to get the seal on next time.
My favorite uses for this include our family's peanut butter-based "Rice Krispie" bars, which can be flattened out directly in the Tupperware (don't let the kids cut the bars, though, or they'll cut right down into the Tupperware!), carrying lots of cookies to the office or an event, and storing biscuits, muffins, and other baked goods for the day or two that they usually last in my house. It's a great size for a lot of things, and I'm glad that Tupperware came back to its senses and started making it again.
