Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Trudeau Garlic Press, BlackCustomer Review: Former Garlic Chopper, Now Garlic Presser Summary: 5 Stars
I don't really like a lot of chopping gadgets in my way in the kitchen but I decided to try this garlic press after reading reviews and after making a dish requiring several cloves of garlic. This press is amazing. It is heavy yet squeezeable and you can smush two small cloves at once. I had a cheap-o one and I never used it but now realize the flavor of the pressed garlic results in a tastier product than with finely chopped AND easier and quicker too. The rubber clean-out feature is OK though I usually just use a fork or knife to remove the skin after squeezing when pressing multiple cloves for a dish. I recommend this press and think it is a great value.
Customer Review: Would be wonderful but for flawed design. Summary: 1 Stars
I haven't used this particular product, but rather an identically designed Food Network brand one. The ergonomics are great and the press works very efficiently and comfortably.... until it breaks.
The handles are actually plastic that are glued into place. I was in the middle of pressing garlic and one of the handle pieces broke off in my hand. And so ended my garlic press.
The Food Network brand has actually redesigned their press to accomodate this flaw... the handle on the piece that moves is now solid metal.
Would be better if the handles were metal with a plastic coating.
Customer Review: Easily Broken Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this garlic press based on the reviews on Amazon. We use garlic in just about every dish we prepare. The mega press my husband uses is too big for my hands and I needed one a little smaller. This press crushes garlic beautifully and cleans up fairly easily. HOWEVER...beware that water creeps into the handles if it is submerged for washing or put in the dishwasher. OK We dealt with that...until this afternoon, 15 months after purchasing this garlic press, the pin in the hinge broke in two. It is now unusable. This press is not worth the money. I think I'll get myself a stainless steel press this time.
Customer Review: Works well, but not for long-term soaking or dishwasher use Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using this in my kitchen for ~6 months now and am very happy with the way it functions. It is solid and heavy, and does its job well.
Cleaning is fair, but the plastic grips actually cover sturdy but hollow handles, that could over time allow for leakage in soaking or in the dishwasher. It is well built, and in the time I have had it it has not allowed water to seep through, but I foresee this design leading to water accumulation in the handle a few years down the road.
Even so, for a reasonably priced solid garlic press, I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend.
Customer Review: Great garlic press Summary: 5 Stars
I first read about this garlic press in Cook's Illustrated magazine and checked the reviews on Amazon before ordering it. It is as good as everyone says--pressing garlic cloves so much smoother and finer than the old press I had that I was amazed that there could be such a difference in performance between brands. The one warning I will give that no one else mentioned, so perhaps I'm at fault here, is that it's rather heavy. So if you pick it up with only one handle, be careful that the other handle doesn't come down and hit your hand. It smarts a bit. Other than that, it's a great product.
