Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Trudeau 0823004 Electric 11-Piece 3-in-1 Fondue SetCustomer Review: Fun for the whole family Summary: 4 Stars
My wife and I enjoy "the Melting Pot" restaurant so I thought it would be fun to get this for home. We fired it up on New Year's Eve and had a three course blast of cheese, broth for cooking beef and chicken, and turtle chocolate dessert. Cooked well (even boiled the broth), but the temperature control didn't seeme real precise. The pot is a little small to support four people trying to cook at the same time, but we managed just fine. Was worth it for us. (BTW, found some great Melting Pot recipes by Googling online but have ordered the Melting Pot Cookbook.)
Customer Review: Not hot enough Summary: 2 Stars
This set cannot get the oil up to 375 degrees (the proper temp with peanut oil) and is too underpowered to hold it anywhere near that temperature, so you have to stop every few groups of items to let the oil heat up again. I guess you need to heat the oil on the stove and then (carefully!!) bring it over to the heating unit. Make sure you have a good thermometer to check the oil temp.
Dinner took 90 minutes and that was basically giving up because we were so bored at that point.
So, fine for cheese fondue, but not for hot oil.
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
We received our fondue pot today, and made it through our cheese course - the crock worked great. However, we got halfway through the meat, and the heating unit shut off. We verified that the power cord was securely attached and waited approx 30 minutes. The heating unit never came back on.
Also, like other reviewers mentioned, the sticker on the heating unit is very difficult to remove, and we did experience the burning plastic smell.
Very disappointed, and are requesting a refund. We'll keep shopping for a fondue pot.
Customer Review: Simple, but Genius Summary: 5 Stars
This is just a small single burner electric range, and a regular fondue pot sold in one package. And, as one might expect it works really well. Just like making your fondue on a stove top, except a lot more portable.
The big question is why aren't there more of these available. Most other electric fondue sets are flawed in one way or another. This one is almost perfect.
The only problem I find with this set is the magnetic power cord breaks-off just a little bit too easy. Not a big problem for me, anyway.
Customer Review: Broke First Time Summary: 1 Stars
We had a different fondue pot for 8 years, and when a handle broke on it, my husband bought this one to replace it. As another reviewer said, this pot only barely got hot enough for the oil that we were using. Before we could get even halfway through our meal, the power light went out. We thought it was an automatic feature, but try as we might we could not get the heating unit to work again. Ever.
I'd rather use my old, reliable fondue pot with the broken handle than to buy another of these.
