Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Trudeau 0823004 Electric 11-Piece 3-in-1 Fondue SetCustomer Review: Exclenet, Easy and Clean Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my girlfriend's birthday along with some fondu cookbooks. The Melting Pot is a favorite restaurant of ours and this set helped us get a similar experience from the comfort of our own home.
The double boiler for the cheese and chocolate is perfect. The cheese stayed nice and evenly melted through the entire time we were eating it. The chocolate melted quite well, but our recipe wasn't that good, so it got very tacky. I don't believe that was the fault of the pot.
For the main dinner course, we discarded the small fork holding ring. It was too crowded with the ring and many of our meats were impossible to get out. You also can't really get in there with a rescue spoon when the ring is on. Without the ring, the forks are more tipsy and might fall out if they get tangled. This is the only reason the review looses a star.
As mentioned by everyone, the cord is VERY short. You will need an extension cord unless you have an outlet on the table. The magnetic disconnect worked very well and we had no issues with it.
This is a fantastic product. The only thing I would wish for would be a slightly larger version that could comfortably serve more people.
Customer Review: This is the right fondue set... Summary: 4 Stars
I totally agree with the review of "artknows" so please refer to his review for particulars. The reason that I gave 4 stars is that, in fact I wish I could give 4,5 stars, but since that doesn't exist, I gave 4 stars to draw your attention to 2 drawbacks that I found. First, the cord is really, really short. If you do not have a wall plug right next to your table, you will need an extension cord for sure. Second, although there are 6 fondue forks for 6 people, the secondary ceramic pot provided for cheese and chocolate fondue is not that big for 6 people. The other (steel) pot is pretty big.
Update: Yesterday I had some guests for cheese fondue and I had to use the steel pot instead of the ceramic pot because the ceramic pot would not suffice for all of us. The thing is, even if you turn down the heat or turn it off, the device heats the fondue so much that it boils and you cannot eat. It almost ruined everything. I am extremely happy that I bought this fondue set. Although I am allowed to edit my review and not allowed to increase the stars, consider as if I increased it.
Customer Review: Taking the scare out of fondue Summary: 5 Stars
We (family of four with two teenage children) have been 'fondue-ing' yearly for 16 years with sets that use sterno or the gel fuel. I finally broke down and ordered this electric version after reading the reviews. The problem with the flame pots is the inconsistancy you get in the heating of the oil/broth or water(for chocolate/cheese fondue). It was either too hot or not hot enough; not to mention the worries with the flame. It would take us all night to get through our meal. This electric pot is FANTASTIC. We used it Christmas Eve to make both cheese fondue and oil for beef and chicken. The responsiveness of the heat was amazing and made the experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. I also like the ability to heat the water/oil directly in the pot rather than preheating it on the stove and then having to transfer into the fondue pot. We will fondue more than once a year with this one. I will most likely buy another one so we can fondue with more than four people at a time. The magnetic attachment of the cord did not cause us any problems.
Customer Review: Great multi-tasker fondue pot Summary: 5 Stars
My budget for the fondue pot was on the lower side, and this fondue pot fits my budget with greatest quality.
1. The pot separates from the heating unit: multi tasking possible for both - pot for butter melting, heating unit for keeping your tea hot
2. Comes with separate ceramic insert that also can be separated from the stainless steel pot: you can do cheese/chocolate fondue properly as well as do your broth fondue
I don't know about you, but because my kitchen top is limited with all the kitchen gadgets -mixer, blender, toaster oven...- so I like multi-taskers like this. It definitely beats the Cuisineart Fondue pot that I was comparing this product with. The Cusineart Fondue pot is made of stainless steel with some insulation, which is nice, but the pot is attached to the heating unit. So you can use a stainless fondue pot, period.
It also delivers the promised heat, safty release of the cord, temparature control, and all others.
Customer Review: Efficient fondue pot Summary: 4 Stars
We've had fondue pots for many years- electric and non-electric. The great advantage of the electric pots is that you don't have to mess with paint thinners or gels for heat; you just plug it the electric pot in and it works fine. This particular arrangement not only allows you to do meat fondue but has an inner, removable ceramic insert that allow you to do cheese. This works fine for both meat and cheese. The only minor complaint I might have is that the cheese and meat are somewhat less warm to the taste than the arrangement done with gels and paint thinners. The meat is a bit rarer and not as well cooked but perfectly fine. The meat heated with paint thinner can get to be somewhat more well done-- and even charred a bit-- which I like. But- this electric set up is fine. The pot can be put in a dishwasher and is unbeatable for convenience.
