I ordered two of these for serving butterfly cookies. I'm not that taken with this brand's designs but this size is big enough and compared to the other serving sizes, this is a good price.
These are actually black not brown as I thought from the picture. Seeing them, I was surprised to realize why they looked familiar. The flowers are clumsily rendered (intentionally?) but the shades of green, red and cream used against the black are actually the same as jade inlay against a black matte background found on some pieces of Chinese furniture. Also, these are Made in China although the painting would not be acceptable to Chinese. How can this be a coincidence, Tracy Porter?
These are $18 plates and are below department store grade. They're like supermarket plates but oh, how funny, funnier than the supermarket certainly. I don't have anything already in my cupboard to serve cookies on, they wackily echo historical Chinese pieces and I am not actually having fun spending money so I am keeping these plates.
