Love these trays.
I don't know why people had a hard time getting the ice released. Simply bend them from both sides and flip it upside down and you are done. A little extra pat will also help. They are very flexible and are likely to never break (unlike plastic trays)
I didn't have any issues with smells. Yes they shake a little when you put them in the fridge but overall they are stable for a silicon product.
The only drawback I found was the cubes take longer to freeze than my plastic trays. They also take longer if you stack them. I'm not sure why this happens but I'm guessing is because the size of the cubes. The cubes by the way are stunning and look beautiful with any glassware. If you like creating beautiful cocktails these will be perfect.

1) This is a good product and gives you a nice emulation of Kold-Draft ice cubes as far as size and shape.
2) The residue issue - white or cloudy/tranparent floaters coming off of the cubes, most simply tested by dropping newly frozen Tovolo cubes into a glass of water - is real and grossed me out to the point that I stopped using these temporarily. My theory is that this phenomenon is related to some finishing agent on the silicone.
In any case, this what worked for me: I placed my two trays in the sink and filled the trays with white vinegar and let them sit overnight. I then dumped them, wiped everything out with a sponge, rinsed them out with hot water and tried a new batch of ice. No floaters, and I am back to using these happily.

Perfect cubes were my dream. Had high hopes for these. I procrastinated buying these for 3-4 years, I think. The anticipation was awesome. Bought two trays. Sure it made the ice more cubical in shape and, just as common sense made me expect, I dealt with the hassle of pushing out the cubes. So far. so good.
Yuck! The weird, offensive flavor and odor it infused in the cubes ruined my beverage. I actually felt like it could give me cancer. These ice cubes might taste good to a robot -- certainly not a human.
The product was a brilliant idea, but utterly failed in its primary function: making ice. Instead, it made frozen chemical blocks.
If I could have given it less than one star, I would.

Spent too much money on these. Got tired of plastic trays that crack and break after a bit and thought by spending for the more expensive silicone tray I'd solved my ice cube problems forever. NOT SO. After several months I noticed that every beverage I put ice in tasted awful. I couldn't figure out the cause for a while. Thought it might be my new fridge but then I tested ice cubes made with these trays against the plastic tray that came with the fridge and lo, when the ice had melted, only the silicone cube water tasted AND smelled like a rubber hose. Don't get ripped off by the nifty cube shape or any other selling point on these. They STINK, literally.Customer Review: My favorite ice cube trays!

I'd been using plastic ice trays, so it took me a couple of fills to get used to these silicone trays, but they're now my favorite! I like the perfect cubes. They last longer than the half-moon types. Best way to empty them is to start on the short end, and press on the bottoms to remove the cubes individually. Once they've been removed, you can easily remove the rest by pressing on the bottoms and peeling the tray back. My husband initially resisted them and voiced his dislike, but I see now that he uses them exclusively, and doesn't touch the other trays.
