What a delightful tool for creating shredded stuff like cheeses and other semi-hard foodstuffs. I just love blocks of parmesan cheese; however, they usually too hard to grate well or without a great deal of effort. The Tom Douglas Microplane takes the effort out of this task. Moreover, the handle is just right for most hands and it fit mine perfectly. That alone takes much of the labor out of the job. I expected a tool that would give too much and this is NOT the case. It withstands the heavy hand with ease. The blades are really sharp. Did you hear me? The blades are really sharp. Hmm, it seems as if I heard something like that recently but in another venue. It has about 60 tiny razors ready for cutting.
A surprise enclosure is the Microplane Slider Attachment. Often a chunk of cheese, especially parmesan, will be too small to grate. This attachment is large enough to hold the small cheese chunk or any other small item such as nuts. By placing the item in the attachment and attaching it to the Microplane Slider grating those small items is not a lot easier and far more safe than attempting to do so without the attachment. The attachment holder makes a good place to store the attachment when not in use and therefore keeping the blade tucked away safely.
The Pinson folks and Tom Douglas provided us with a fine product. Even though most of the usage for this item is simple to do, it would have been nice had they included instructions so that there would be no question about operation and safety. A person who is less than intuitive may have a problem. Even still this is a top notch product and when I wear out the blades, I will rebuy this item.
