I also have the same problem of never being able to figure out how much batter to put in the baker - although I don't necessarily think this is a design malfunction. I think overall, this is a great waffle baker - I really like that I can get 4 waffles at a time. However, I don't like 2 things:
1. I've had issues with the waffles sticking. I saw other people didn't, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. But I usually spray cooking spray before putting on the first waffles. I don't have to do it again if I'm making more.
2. The power cord has a tag that reads in fine print: "WARNING: The power cord on this product contains lead, a chemical known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling." So, this means that after every time I turn it on or off, I have to wash my hands. Not only that, I keep it away from other food and from my kids. This kind of freaks me out a little, although I still use it. I'm an avid hand washer anyway, but I think it's a little strange that an appliance used to cook food has lead in it.
