I bought this item after watching the impressive commercial for it. First of all, if you intend to buy one or two of these demonic instruments, you had better stock your kitchen with a lot of band-aides. The first time I used it, it sliced a layer of skin off of one of my fingers. Secondly, do NOT allow children to handle these things!!! The teeth are razor sharp and will cause serious injury.
I have cooked for many many years and have used many different types of kitchen gadgets and always looking for one that will cut my prep time in half. The Titan 'cuts' in half all right, it cuts your SKIN in half!!! The person in the commercial demonstrating the Titan peeler uses it like a breeze but I'm here to tell you that this is NOT the case. I used the smaller peeler to slice cheese and yes, it works fine for that until you get to the last part of the cheese and then you must stop or else lose a finger. This peeler slices the cheese too thin for my taste but it does slice cheese. I also peeled the skin off of some cucumbers and the smaller peeler worked fine but again, this thing is dangerous. Oh, if you use the larger peeler on cheese, you will get strips/strings of cheese instead of slices. I also attempted to slice a tomato like the guy did on the commercial. All I can say is, "Pa-Leeeeese". What a joke.
Okay. Just a few minutes ago I made cole slaw using these pirana hungry utensils. I cut the cabbage into quarters and started shredding. The large peeler DOES shred the cabbage but the commercial doesn't tell you that you have to clean out the peeler every other minute. It clogs up and there is no way to continue using it until you clean it out. This peeler also wastes food. There is no way to shred the cabbage when the piece gets smaller so I had to use a sharp knife to finish making the cole slaw. I could have made the slaw just using my knife the same way I did before spending $14.99 on this gimmick. The guy on the commercial shows you how to use the peeler going back and forth. Don't try this little stupid maneuver, not unless the guy is standing in your kitchen showing you exactly HOW to do it! This maneuver works on cucumbers and carrots but not on cabbage.
I regret buying these two peelers and I should have known better. Of course, I also bought the Sham Wow cloths a few months ago and found out that paper towels are better so I have learned my lesson twice on gimmicky things.
