Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase Bottle

Customer Review: Great design, great product
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this carafe for eight months now and I can give it an enthusiastic "buy" recommendation. There are many reasons why the reviews here on Amazon are so uniformly positive. The design is beautiful, by which I mean that the bottle both looks great on the counter (clean and sleek), is very easy to use, and (most importantly) it really keeps liquids hot! (I confess I have not used it for keeping liquids cold, but I would assume it's just as effective.) For example, yesterday I made coffee in the morning (in my french press, so it started out very hot), poured it into the carafe immediately; 12 hours later, to my amazement, the coffee was still warm enough to drink! (I do "prewarm" the inner surface by filling it with hot tap water while my coffee is brewing, which definitely extends the holding time.) I also love the all-metal fabrication for durability--even though I haven't dropped it (yet), there's peace of mind in knowing that the most likely worst outcome is a dent rather than shattered glass. I mostly use it just in the kitchen for keeping coffee hot and don't keep the top on the unit, since it isn't really necessary for thermal protection. However, on occasion the top has come in handy as a drinking cup when going mobile. Overall, I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this product, and it's truly an excellent value at this price.

Customer Review: Awesome Midsize Thermos
Summary: 5 Stars

First off just let me say this Thermos should be adequate to fulfill your daily coffee-drinking needs. I still have yet to fill it up all the way and I have more than enough coffee throughout my workday. I only say this because from the pictures (as in real life) it looks a bit smaller than some of the typical more rugged full size Thermoses out there. That being said, it is a gem. At first I bought the Thermos King Beverage Bottle with a 40 oz. capacity for myself and then I picked this one up as a more graceful coffee carrier for my wife. But I might just like it more than my own. I've been sneaking it to work for about a week now and have had nothing but good experiences with it. It's a perfect match of graceful design with complete functionality, tall and slim with a nice low-profile spout. And as for the heat retention, yeah, it keeps it hot. As soon as I wake up in the morning around 5 a.m. I fill it with hot water, and then right before leaving for work at 7:00 I fill it up with hot water again and dump it before adding my coffee. I'm also sure to heat my 1/2 and 1/2 for about a minute before adding it to my coffee as well. And so far it's been great. The Thermos King is a very nice product in and of itself, but after trying this one I wish I'd just bought two of 'em.

Customer Review: Keeps liquids steaming hot for an eye-popping long time
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this thermos since April 2008. I haven't used it yet for cold liquids, but it works better than I ever would have expected for keeping coffee hot and great-tasting. The thermos works very simply: when you want to drink your beverage, partially unscrew the cap and pour.

The thermos retains heat much longer if you fill it with hot water for a few minutes prior to filling it with your intended beverage. This is documented in the instructions, and I've found it to be true. If you don't do this, your beverage does not retain its heat as long.

For the most effective use, make sure to open the thermos only when absolutely necessary. Repeated openings allow the heat to escape. For example, I sealed in freshly brewed coffee one evening at midnight, then poured myself a cup a full nine hours later the following morning at work; the coffee was steaming hot and delicious. Another time I sealed freshly brewed coffee into the thermos at 7:30 AM. I poured myself a cup at 8:30am (one hour later) and a second cup at 11:30am (four hours later). Both cups were steaming hot and delicious. At 2:15pm (6.75 hours after the initial brewing), I poured a third cup -- the coffee was hot but not steaming (but still tasted great).

Customer Review: Amazing little (tall) bottle!
Summary: 5 Stars

Let's start with the outside... it's made of stainless steel, I can probably beat somebody with it and it won't make a dent, and it's tall but compact. It's also made in Malaysia.

So, what do we have here? It's a very spacious, 34 ounce thermos. And boy does it work, and well! It was in the high 80s out today, and I filled my new thermos with organic apple juice. I put it in my messenger bag, and ran numerous errands all day in the heat, and with the bottle bouncing around inside the bag as I ran, walked, and climbed numerous steps into, and out of the subway.

The end result? 12 hours or so later, the apple juice is still cold! (what's left of it) And nothing leaked out, nope. You can tell the stopper and lid are meant to keep things (including the cold) inside.

So, to get to the liquid, first there's the main cap that you screw off. Below that layer is a plastic stopper, recycling code 05. Unscrew that, and ah, liquidy goodness!

The only thing that may be difficult is cleaning, as it's a tall bottle, and hard to get into... my method thus far is dropping water and soap in it, covering it, and shaking it furiously like I'm mixing a drink or something. This seems to work well.

Customer Review: Starbucks no more. . . errrr, less often anyway
Summary: 5 Stars

I figured out how much money I was spending stopping for coffee on the way to work in the morning and decided a thermos was the way to go so I could bring my coffee from home. I ordered the 34-ounce Nissan Thermos after reading the reviews and I am very happy with it, probably embarrassingly so given how excited I was when I got it. My coworkers now call it my magic thermos.

It keeps my coffee hot all day, even when I leave the pour spout unscrewed a little. The spout pours neatly and doesn't spill, which is much more than I can say for my Krups coffee decanter. When closed, everything is sealed tight. I can throw it in my messenger bag along with important papers and not worry at all that I'm going to have spilled liquid on anything.

The design of the bottle is very nice- it is tall, sleek, and fits well in one hand. It isn't too heavy even when filled with liquid. It holds much more than it looks like it could hold given how portable it is.

The only thing that would make me like this thermos more is if this bottle came with an enamel/sleeve option so that I wasn't constantly wiping fingerprints off it. That's just a product of stainless steel though, and not a defect.
