Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase BottleCustomer Review: More than a thermos... A wise investment! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this thermos three months ago as a solution to my coffee-stain problem.
As a teacher, I have very little time during the day to run to the "faculty lounge" to replenish my morning coffee or to catch an after-lunch pick-me-up. So, over the years, I developed the habit of driving to work with three full insulated coffee cups (with lids): two I placed in my car's cup-holders, the third I held in my hand as I drove. Not very smart. Invariably, I ended up wearing some of my coffee.
But those days are over.
This Nissan thermos solved my coffee-stain problem. But it did even more. It solved another problem I never knew I had.
I had become so accustomed to the lukewarm and cold coffee that my "three go-cup method" yielded that I had forgotten how good a hot cup of coffee is in the late morning or early afternoon. I no longer have that problem. This Nissan thermos keeps my coffee piping hot throughout the day and into the night.
It is durable. Tall and thin, it fits easily in a backpack or briefcase. The vacuum insulation keeps the coffee inside the thermos (preventing further coffee-stains!). It also cleans easily. I wash it by hand nightly, using an elongated bottle-brush with soft bristles to clean the interior.
Purchasing this thermos was a wise investment for me. I happily recommend it to those who are tired of coffee-stains on their clothes and old, cold coffee in their cups.
Customer Review: This one works better than advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I have had other types of beverage containers that were supposed to keep their contents warm for long periods of time. I have one (not this one) that has trouble keeping tea warm enough to drink for an hour! But, this Thermos goes far beyond expectations.
The first time I used it, it blew me away. Seriously, here's what happened- I poured hot tea into the Thermos at 7:30 AM and forgot it on the counter when I left for work. And, based on experience with the other container I had been using, just knew it would be cold and lousy when I got home after 7 PM. But, I opened the top and steam was coming out! This is the truth- The tea was so hot after almost 12 hours, it was still too hot to drink!! Wow.
The trick with this Thermos is to not anticipate large heat losses through the day, so pour your beverage into it at whatever temperature you want to drink it. Don't make it hotter expecting it to get cold on you, it won't. If you like your tea at 150 degrees, make it 150 and when you open the Thermos to drink it at lunch time, it will still be 150 degrees. I don't know how this Thermos can retain heat and others cannot, but this one really works.
Absolutely the best thing I have ever purchased online in my life. For once, a product that not only lives up to the advertising claims, but exceeds them. THANK YOU!
TIP: Buy this one, don't buy whatever other one you're looking at.
Customer Review: Stupendous! Summary: 5 Stars
I just received this thermos and filled it up with tea, after prewarming it as suggested. To my amazement, the tea was still piping hot 24 hours later. And yes, I did open it (about 3 times) to pour tea during the 24 hrs. BTW, the way you "open" it is you unscrew the lid partially, about 2 turns, then pour, with the lid attached. Don't take the lid completely off, as it will allow more heat to escape. The only thing I would change is to make the screw-on top double walled stainless, like the themos body, rather than single walled stainless with a plastic liner. As it is, the cup gets very hot and can be difficult to hold when drinking hot beverages, requiring one to hold it by gripping the thin edge of the plastic liner. This isn't a problem if you'll always use a separate cup or mug, but I the screw on cup is very convenient. Tip: one day I had trouble screwing the stopper on straight and I thought the threads or the silicone seal ring had been damaged. The problem was I overfilled the thermos slightly so it was just about 1/8" above the fill line. Poured out a bit of water and it was fine. That shows you how tight the seal is.
This is the new standard of what a thermos should be. Definitely worth the price. It's very well made, easy to clean, eco-friendly, compact, looks good and will probably last longer than you'll live (unless the silicone gasket fails and replacements aren't available). I think I'll buy the 16 oz food jar next.
Customer Review: My favorite purchase from Amazon.com Summary: 5 Stars
Leave it to some engineers to produce one of the best products on the market. The Nissan Thermos is excellent. The high vacuum means that my coffee made today is still hot enough to drink tomorrow, no lie. In one case I made coffee on a friday morning, filled the thermos full, and forgot about it. I use a french press and always pour into the thermos after it's made. Sunday morning when I went to make coffee, I realized that the thermos was still full. The coffee inside was still hot and almost as fresh as if I had just made it.
In my opinion, this high-vacuum thermos is the best on the market.
Another shock, the thermos came with a pamplet of plots and charts. They were temperature vs. time plots comparing their high vacuum to an unspecified lower vacuum and a non-vacuum insulated thermos. Being an engineer myself, I got a large kick out of this.
Only complaint: The rubber seal on the top is absorbant. Since the second use, the seal has smelled of old coffee. When I put tea in the thermos the next day it took on a hint of this smell. The seal is a vital component of the thermos, without which it leaks and does not hold heat as well.
It holds just over a half pot of coffee (6 cups, according to Cuisinart).
Overall, the Nissan Stainless Steel briefcase bottle is, without a doubt, my favorite purchase from Amazon.com.
Customer Review: Great Thermos Summary: 5 Stars
I got this to bring coffee to work, and because I needed something that was spill-proof for my backpack/bus trip and larger than one travel-mug.
This is perfect. First off, I just measured it and it's 12 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. I filled it up with water and poured the water in my coffee carafe and it came up to the 6 cup line, or about twice what the 15 ounce travel mug I was using can hold. About 2 medium coffees I guess.
I'm drinking the hot coffee now. Looks to keep coffee really hot, so no complaints there.
My only complaint would be that the stopper and the inside of the cup are plastic. I wish they were stainless steel, as I'm a little nerdy with trying to avoid plastic for health reasons and 'green' reasons. But I don't drink out of the cup and the top of the stopper doesn't touch the coffee if you keep the thermos upright. So no big deal I guess.
You can also pour coffee out of the thermos without removing the stopper. You just twist it a little then pour it out the holes they made for that purpose, which will keep the coffee hotter for longer periods since you're not opening the stopper to let the heat out. Pours fine that way, no mess so far, just tried it.
Recommend it. Why pay all that money at the corporate coffee store each day when you can brew your own and take it with you?
