Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan FBB1000 34-Ounce Stainless-Steel Vacuum Insulated Briefcase BottleCustomer Review: Just tellin the details Summary: 4 Stars
The 4 stars is rated on the fact that the thermos is tall! It makes up for in capacity.. but I did not realize at time of purchase since there were no actual size pictures or readily comparable 30-something ounce bottles in my house. Functionally fantastic so far. I'm sure there are other reviews that can attest to how well it does it's job.
Appearance & Details: Unlike the picture, the thermos I received actually says THERMOS(r) : N I S S A NTM : a tiny diamond thermos logo(R), in printed black letters straight on the thermos. (3 lines respectively) I think it looks better than the one in this amazon picture. There is a small "made in China conforms to blah blah" sticker on the bottom which peeled off easily, but the residue needs goo gone. Another sticker says THERMOS THERMAX MAXIMUM INSULATION. Thermos itself I believe is a Canadian company. :) Does not appear to be lined, just stainless steel inside. :)
Dimension: I can only stick 2 fingers into it, any other fingers get jammed. The height of the thermos without the lid is about the length of my forearm. The cap is about my wrist to bottom of pinky. I'm 5'2, so now you quickly estimate the dimensions without a ruler!
Description: The cap is black plastic with a durable-looking white rubbery ring. It screws all the way off, or part way (pouring mode) or shut. The external cap functions as a cup, the inside of that is shiny plastic.
Experience: After rinsing fruit juice there was a bit of that smell, but upon filling it with milk I could not smell the fruit juice. That is probably cause I just put water and shook it instead of using a sponge to clean the insides. The thermos comes with a 5 year manufacturers warrantee (not if you damage it purposely) and a little flyer chart that shows you it'll keep your coffee at the recommended temp for 24 hours! Dropping from around 220 to around 150 by the end of 24 hours. I filled it with hot water and after pouring it out, tried to smell it. Bad idea, because steam was still coming out of the thermos (great insulation!) Lucky for me nothing happened, you have read this too so now you know and are relatively safe from that mistake!
Critique: Personally I think the 30 something ounce space would look better in a fatter mug shape, and that the ideal size for portability is probably be the 20 something or 16 ounces (water bottle size). I'm pretty sure the measurements (design) are not in accordance to Phi. I hope a manufacturer will learn this and make a thermos according to this aesthetic number.
Notes: I think Thermos (Nissan is a line) is the most sought after brand for thermoses. Another really good brand is Zojirushi, both companies teflon line their newer thermoses for easy cleaning. I read that teflon is safe under 500 degrees (boiling point is only around 200) so it's either something you care or don't care about, but it has been considered not extremely dangerous by the manufacturers.
Last trivial note: Thermos vibrates when you tap it or set it down, I suspect because of the vacuum technology.
Have fun!
