Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan 18-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler

Customer Review: Can't be beat
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband drinks coffee continuously. Whenever we are in the car, I'm always after him not to spill his coffee and I constantly have to clean up the inevitable spills. We could never find a good cup that would fit in the cup holder so the spills were always on the floor or in his lap. This cup does spill if it's tipped over (I don't think any cup will ever be completely spill proof) but it fits in the cup holder and therefore doesn't spill as easily. I bought two, one for him and one for me (I drink ice water and tea) and they both fit together nicely side-by-side in our cars cup holder. They keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold for long periods of time. I have purchased loads of cups over the 34 years of our marriage and this has to be the best by far. I would highly recommend this item for everyone!

Customer Review: Bacteria grows under both seals
Summary: 4 Stars

There are two putty-colored seals on the mug: one under the lid that seals the lid to the body's collar, and another that seals the collar permanently to the stainless steal body. After a year of daily use and washing by hand, both seals hid bacteria underneath. I squeezed a cotton swab along the seals and black, inky liquid seeped out.

I used a Water-Pic to squirt water with some bleach under the seals to sanitize them. I have abandoned casual hand washing in favor of my scalding hot dishwasher.

I have had occasional minor mouth sores on the inside of my lower lip. I can't definitively blame the mug, but I still have my suspicions that the mug's bacteria might be causing the mouth sores.

I'm going through this ordeal because I LOVE USING THIS TUBBLER! ****

Customer Review: We love it, just bought another
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought one for my spouse. She drinks a lot of tea and she likes it at a certain temperature. She often makes a large mug but then she wears a path back and forth to the microwave keeping the tea hot. She's only been using this Nissan tumbler for a few days, and she loves it. It has changed her whole work patterns and tea drinking experience. Now she can make a large tumbler of tea, enjoy it through the day, and not have to keep running back to the kitchen to heat it up. The one possible down side is the tumbler work too well. If you pour boiling water into the tumbler to make tea, it will TOO hot to drink for a long time. For coffee it would probably be fine, but for tea you need to let the tea cool down before you cap the tumbler. She loves this tumbler, and I just ordered myself one.

Customer Review: Wonderful Coffee mug
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchase my first 18 oz. Nissan travel mug about 5 years ago and have to say it has been the best mug I have ever had. Recently it sprung a small leak in the base so I ordered a new one for myself and my wife. Unlike some of the other reviews I have had nothing but great success with mine. No odors or other issues but I clean mine every day inside and out.

I can make a cup of tea with milk around 6 in the morning and it is still hot to drink 4 hours later. I understand that some people want a completely leak proof mug and if that is the case then this is not for you. If you tip it on its side product will leak out at a very slow rate but I would not expect anything else from a portable mug unless it was a "Sippy cup". All in all a great value for money.

Customer Review: Good office coffee mug
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It keeps my drinks hot or cold for hours. I'm done drinking my coffee well before it even gets warm. In fact, that took a little getting used to. I kept expecting my freshly-pored-from-the-pot hot coffee to cool down a bit after I pored it, but it doesn't for a while. I had to start adding a little cold water if I wanted to drink (not sip) my coffee without getting my tongue a little burnt, and that's without pre-heating the mug prior to poring it in.

It's splash & almost spill proof too, & it's still easy to drink / operate with one hand. It's not leak proof, but it's not advertised as being leak proof either. It's good for the office or car, but it's definitely not something you can throw in a backpack or brief case.
