Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan 18-Ounce Stainless-Steel Insulated Travel Tumbler

Customer Review: perfect travel mug!
Summary: 5 Stars

this mug is perfect for sipping. if the coffee's too hot, you just tip it until the perfect amount is sitting in the top part of the mug, which you can then cool by blowing on it and sip at the perfect temperature. as for what others have said about not being able to clean around the rim...i'm not really sure what they're talking about b/c the edge of my sponge easily squeezes into that part to clean it out w/o having to use a q-tip. when you flip the top open, it snaps on the other side, and when you close it, it also snaps in place. and as others have said, it's not spill proof, but i knew that before buying. and it fits perfectly in the tiny cupholders my car was equipped with. and of course, it keeps my coffee piping hot. i once forgot to take my coffee mug with me and left it at home all day. while it was not steaming hot when i got home, it was still pretty warm!

Customer Review: Large enough but not good
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this insulated tumbler because of its size. It is large enough to suit to me, but it has some other problems. As mentioned before the lid is really terrible. It screws on securely but it has a flimsy plastic flip piece to drink out of. I would rather have something I can trust not to spill. If you even tilt the container a bit while it's full it leaks around the edges of the piece that flips.

Another problem I have is with the rubber seal near the top. Liquid gets under the seal and has a tendency to stay there. I dry it the recommended way (upside down) and it still retains liquid. I make my own cappuccino in the morning to bring to work...if you don't clean this tumbler out IMMEDIATLEY afterwards it will reek to high heaven. It still sometimes stinks after cleanings because of the water/coffee sitting under the rubber seal.

Customer Review: Great Mug and Easy to Clean
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally, a mug that doesn't get a gross build up of impossible-to-clean-out gunk! A tea and chai drinker, I often carry around drinks that are 25-50% milk, and few things ruin a morning quite like encountering ancient dairy gunk while try to sip my morning cuppa. That this mug is a big 18 oz and keeps tea so hot I have to toss an ice cube in to be able to drink it without burning my tongue as soon as I get to work is also fabulous, but I'm in it for the easy clean. Every bit is accessible, and so cleanable. Do keep in mind that the easier a travel mug is to clean, the less leak-proof it is, so keep this mug upright and keep it out of flailing range in the office. If you want to be able to juggle your mug and not have any liquid come out this one isn't for you, but if you're commuting in a car with cupholders like I do, you shouldn't have any problems.

Customer Review: Best Tumbler/Mug I've Ever Had
Summary: 5 Stars

I've tried so many different kinds of drink tumblers for the car that I've lost count. For some reason I bought two of these and I'm so glad I did, they're great. Many tumblers sweat so bad when filled with ice cubes that I have to keep napkins at the bottom of the holder and a towel in my lap. If I find a mug that doesn't sweat, the insulation makes it so huge that it has a hard time fitting in the drink holder.

The Nissan has never sweat once. I fill it with ice at 6am on my way to work, refill it from the office water cooler all day, and when I get home at 7pm that night I've still got some of the same ice still in the tumbler that I left with that morning...AMAZING!!! I have a hard time getting excited about many things, but this stupid tumbler makes my 1-1/2hr drive every am & pm a bit nicer. Thanks Thermos...

Customer Review: Good thermos but it leaks badly
Summary: 3 Stars

Like every Nissan vaccum flask product I ever bought, this cup does a good job of keeping my hot stuff (coffee in this) hot, especially if you follow their advice and pre-heat the inside with hot water.

This particular design has a major flaw in the lid though. The sip-closure does not seal. It leaks quite a lot and quite easily. As in, I cannot turn the cup on its side and not have fluid pour out. That is a very bad thing in a travel mug. If you only use this as a desk cup then maybe it won't bother you. It still bothers me. When I carry it around at work I have to keep it upright.

I have to imagine that the heat retention would also be better if it had a more-insulated and sealed lid design, not that heat retention is awful now (it is indeed worse than my larger Nissan thermos-style flask).
