I originally purchased one of the tumblers about 10 years ago and just recently misplaced it so this purchase is a replacement. After the original was lost, I experimented with several other aluminum tumblers that looked similar and cost less, and they were OK, but they just do not hold a candle to the insulating quality and durability of this model.
I read some negative reviews about this unit before I placed the order. I agree, the top plug (through which one drinks) is not designed to be water tight seal so that can sometimes present a problem, but that's a trade-off I'm more than willing to accept for the superior insulating qualities and general durability of the unit.
Another negative issue mentioned related to the rubber seal in the lid and it was never a problem for me in the old unit, but I am pretty picky about cleaning the the thing after I use it. I never had any mold build-up or foul smell. I can only speak for myself, but I suspect this is a case of folks not properly cleaning it after use. Sort of reminds me of the carpenter that blames his tools.

I've been using this travel mug for over a year and a half now and it's excellent. At the time, I was just looking for a stainless steel mug to avoid plastics with food. However, this has been better than any plastic travel mug I've ever owned. Drinks stay hot, the grip is really comfortable to hold, and it's easy to clean. I have never put it in the dishwasher; just hand-washed it as recommended. When I get home I put water in it and let it sit until I'm washing my dinner dishes. It still looks new, so it's holding up very well. Though I've also never dropped it on a hard surface or given it a reason to break. With normal-use and hand-washing, I expect this mug to last forever. Everyone should have a travel mug, even when going out for beverages. Tip: Bring this 18oz mug to your coffee shop, but order a small drink. They *always* without fail fill my mug up to the top - both national chains and my local shops. For example, I go to Starbucks and order a tall (12oz) and I always get 18oz of beverage. If you like to order medium/large drinks anyways - this will save you money! :)Customer Review: Nearly perfect.

I got my travel tumbler at the same time I purchased a thermos for my SO. The only complaint I could possibly have is that there is a small hole on the bottom of the tumbler (in the rubber non-skid foot bit) that can retain water and then release it at an inapprpriate moment. It doesn't really leak or drip (this hole), but when I sat it on my desk, I kept wondering where the water ring was coming from. That having been said, the only other suggestion I could have is that the snapping lid (that makes it spill-proof, but not drip-proof) fit more snugly. Other than these two relatively minor issues, it's a great tumbler. It keeps my coffee hot (I haven't tried out cold on it,yet), cleans easily and looks great. It gets jostled quit a bit during my morning commute, but doesn't spill (it hasn't been knocked to the floorboards, yet, traffic isn't that rough.)
Overall, I'd say if you're looking for a high-quality travel cup that keeps things hot for quite some time, this is your best bet.

I received this tumbler for my birthday, and it is one of the best presents I have ever been given. I have a couple of the larger, wide-bottomed Thermos mugs, but they are only practical at home or at the office. They simply don't fit into the cup holder of a car.This tumbler holds a generous amount of hot coffee, and keeps it hot for hours. The swinging, snap lid is easy to open and close. It will snap to a fixed, open position as well as to a closed position.
With this tumbler, I can leave the house early in the morning with a full container of coffee, sipping from it as I drive my son to school. I can continue sipping on the way to the gym and back. If I have any coffee left, I then take it to the office with me. The portability is simply GREAT.
Although I use this tumbler exclusively for hot coffee, it will work well with any hot or cold beverage. It's my favorite Thermos product so far, and is definitely well-worth the price!

This is an incredible product for keeping your beverage hot or cold. It amazes me how well it works as many others have commented BUT I think it has a serious design flaw also as mentioned by others. There is a rubber gasket on the inside of the cup and whatever you are drinking gets trapped under it and really cannot get out without VIGOROUS washing. I run this through the dishwasher after every use because of this. It's really a great product but every other insulated mug I have doesn't have that gasket (yuk) problem. I suspect all the great reviews haven't discovered this as it took me a while until I noticed the odd smell inside the cup. Lifted the gasket and "old" coffee (latte) came out and was pretty gross. If it weren't for the gasket problem I would rate it a 5-star but having to wash it really well after each use causes me to leave it sit on the shelf and I grab my old one instead... too bad really.
