Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Thermos Nissan 16-Ounce Stainless Steel Backpack Bottle, Smoke ColorCustomer Review: Great Portable Thermos Summary: 5 Stars
Keeps drinks hot or cold for hours.
It keeps them so hot that I have to brew my tea with it half full, then when I'm ready to pack up for work, I add milk and cold or hot water to make it the right drinking temperature. Otherwise, I risk a burnt tongue. If I were to take a long road trip, I trust this would keep coffee hot and ready for when I needed a boost. I have stuffed it into my various bags without spillage and am very satisfied. I like to brew tea and keep in on my desk to refill a cup that I am drinking out of. I have two of these. One for coffee and the other for tea. After using it for coffee, tea has a slight coffee taste.
cons
It is very slim and wobbles a little in my car's cup holder. If the lid is up, I imagine a full thermos might splash.
I have to plan ahead if I want to drink a hot beverage as soon as I get in my car. It's not really a complaint but something I have done to work around the fact that this thing keeps stuff very hot.
I would buy another if I lost mine.
Customer Review: Perfection in a bottle! Summary: 5 Stars
This Thermos product is the best insulated bottle I have ever seen!
I would fill it with red wine and throw it in my suitcase on my next trip without beeing concerned it wouild leak a single drop!
The seal is perfekt, and it is still very handy: it can be opended and closed with one hand while driving with no problem! After drinking, it either fits into any cup holder, or you just throw it on the passenger seat!
If you fill in hot coffe in the morning, it will still be hot at lunch! And even after 8 hours, the content is still warm enough to drink.
The only thing it needs is good cleaning, otherwise, the seal (yellow on mine) will look ugly in no time, and it will also get a pretty nasty scent. I left it in my suitcase twice after use for a couple of days, and it really took a while to get it clean after that!
I have never tried to throw it in the dishwasher, but I bet it wouldn't hurt it.
I would recommend it to anyone who likes good quality, reliable seal and a handy bottle.
Customer Review: Initially loved this thermos, but now not so much Summary: 2 Stars
I read the previous reviews before purchasing this thermos for my daughter and most people seemed pleased. Although there was some concern of this thermos leaking, I thought that was unlikely. Initially, my daughter LOVED the thermos, she said that is keeps her drinks hot all day and it was perfect for her; however, I now know I should have listened to the reviews because the thermos has started sporadically leaking. The first time it leaked, she was wearing a white top and the thermos leaked hot chocolate on the front of her. She thought that maybe she didn't tighten the top correctly. Since then, she has used it a few more times (being a bit more careful) and it still leaks randomly, not sure why. I would have given this item 5 stars in the beginning, but since I have to now buy a new thermos just a two months later, I can not give a good rating for durability or cost since it was too expensive to only last two months.
Customer Review: Cold Winter Hike Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this thermos after a friend recommended it for keeping liquids warm even on the coldest winter hikes. I've taken this thermos filled with hot tea on day hikes in the White Mountains in the dead of Winter, in temperatures in the single digits. There's nothing more fullfilling than reaching the peak of a mountain and viewing the splendid panorama of the surrounding moutain range, and on top of that be able to take a drink of warm tea is just icing on the cake. The peak of the mountain is dramatically colder than the base of the mountain and all along the way my tea stays nice and toasty.
The only con that I have is that if the thermos is filled a little too full when the lid is placed on it the liquid makes its way up into the cavity of the lid where the lid screws on and tends to leak until all of that excess liquid is gone. A little messy but well worth the hassle. Just don't fill it too high.
Customer Review: Outer color layer peeling off within 3 months Summary: 3 Stars
Overall an ok purchase - not much leakage, keeps beverages very hot even on long commutes to work.
Drinking hole is kind of small but livable, cleaning is a little tricky. But my real complaint is with whatever process is used to color the outside of the thermos (I purchased the 'Smoke Color' version).
I've had it for less than 3 months and the layer of paint (or whatever material is used to provide the 'smoke' grey color) is peeling off in swaths, exposing the steel underneath, giving it a very cheap look.
In fact every time I pick it up I end up with little bits of grey film all over my hands.
That being said, I also bought my sister the brown version at the same time and hers still looks new, so YMMV.
And no, I don't subject it to any particularly unusual conditions - it rides in my messenger bag on the commute and sits on my desk otherwise.
