Customer Review: Nice function; fiddly to clean, eventually the lid's seal goes

I like the style of this mug, and it does keep my drinks cold/hot. Unlike all the travel mugs out there it's got a wide base, so it doesn't get knocked over. So not good for car, great for office.
I also like the dent. People ask me about it, and I joke that they dented it at the factory by mistake, so they raised the price and called it style. But aside from adding a point of interest to the mug, it makes for a comfortable grip when I am not holding it by the handle (e.g. I'm switching hands.)
Speaking of the handle, unlike other reviewers I've had no problems with it falling off. After a couple of years there are no signs of it budging. However recently I've noticed that the lid doesn't stay on as securely as it used to. If the rim of the cup or the lid is wet, the steam/heat from a good hot drink actually causes the lid to pop up spontaneously. This has made me super-paranoid so I clamp the lid on with my fingers while I am drinking, which isn't a relaxing way to enjoy a beverage. I think the rubber seal around the lid has just gotten old- apparently if I call Thermos directly I might be able to get a new one, but I haven't priced that yet.
There are a few crannies on the lid and base that you'll need a brush to really clean out; I do this once in a while. The bottom of the mug says it is dishwasher safe; Thermos's website implies that it isn't but it's not clear that the web page was talking about this specific product.
Although I'm disappointed that the seal hasn't lasted forever, and I wish I had a straight answer on the dishwasher thing, it's worked out much better for my desk than the travel mugs I'd been using. I'd give it 5 stars if the lid screwed on like a travel mug instead of just using a rubber gasket.
