Customer Review: Know food temperature while you are out of the kitchen
Summary: 5 Stars

I have several digital probe thermometers, but each requires you to insert, read and withdraw. I wanted one that would read outside of the oven or toaster oven. I opted for this model with the remote so I didn't have to return to the kitchen to keep on checking. I glad I did for this unit is getting much welcomed use. Currently I am doing lots of lower temperature cooking in both the oven and toaster oven, experimenting. The remote lets me know what the current temperature of the cooking food is while I am in other parts of the house. The alarm lets me know when the target temperature is reached. This device is highly accurate and allows me to cook food with lower than normal temperature resulting, for me, in a better tasting result. [Try a roast this way and you'll love it.] Excellent quality equipment with preset internal temperatures for various meats that you can adjust up or down. Also can be used as a timer. Metal covered probe to device chord is thin enough so as not to interfere with the closing of an oven or toaster oven door. If you purchase one of the new convection toaster ovens where cooking times are different, this device is a must.

Customer Review: Good but not perfect, not perfect by far.
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this probe thermometer because I started getting into real barbecuing, I mean meat smoking. It works pretty good. The temperatures are not as accurate as most instant read thermometer's, but then again, you can't leave an instant read thermometer in your oven. The alarm is annoying... it goes off all the time when you use the probe thermometer remote unit. I don't know if it's just not walking on to the main unit while walking around the house, or what. I was standing 3 feet away from my oven and the main thermometer unit and the remote unit kept alarming telling me that I was out of range. See what I mean, annoying. However, compared to the rest that I looked at... it is decent in the price isn't too bad comparison to the other units that are like this one. One thing you will want to do, purchased an extra probe cable. They get kind of dirty and they're a little bit difficult to clean. They're good for several uses, but after awhile the actual chord gets a bit gunky. All in all... I would recommend this unit... but I think probe thermometer's are far from perfect. Nice gadget to have around the house, though.

Customer Review: Nice unit...and it works...

...unlike the similar Weber POS.

I bought the Weber wireless remote thermometer from Anazon. I tried using it with next to no success. The base unit would not keep communicating with the remote unit, even when base and remote units were a foot apart. Forget about communication with the remote inside and the base unit at your grill outside. Sent it back to Amazon.

Bought this Taylor unit. Just got it and tried it. Communication is solid and the temperature displays (sender and remote) are accurate. (Kept me from over-cooking a niceribeye I was trying to cook rare.) No problem communicating with the grill outdoors and me inside...even with 32 F weather. The displays are plenty big.

Minus is that the plastic used in the construction of the two units does not seem real rugged or very high quality. The warranty is also only one year vs. the 10 years that Taylor gives on their wired unit.

It looks promising...and at least it does work, unlike the Weber.

Customer Review: Overall Great, occassional reset needed
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall this has served us well. The receiver has never had trouble connecting to the main box. The construction, while cheap-looking white plastic, looks like it will hold together fine for quite a while.

The only big problem we have had is that sometimes it locks up and won't tell u the right temperature. I find this in a couple of instances, but not totally sure of the cause. If the Meat is already been cooking for a while in the oven, the device seems to get confused. The confusion can happen a couple different ways, but the end result is that you have to unplug everything, re-seat the cord, and wiggle it a little, make sure it's in good, and then it seems to work again. Sometimes re-seating the batteries helps too. I thought it was hopelessly broken a couple times, only to put it down and pick it up weeks later, and it's fine.
go figure! still works great when it's working.

Customer Review: Ingenious and Functional
Summary: 5 Stars

Cook's Illustrated, a magazine that among other things extensively compares kitchen items and equipment wrote that this is the best remote meat thermometer, and I can't disagree. It is much more programmable and flexible than other makes. It works well in the oven, on the grill, in the smoker. I used it to cook a brisket for 12 hours when on vacation with my family. Having this device allowed me to leave the smoker and spend time with people instead of feeling like I had to be at the smoker to check progress all day long. The temperature seems to read acurately, the transmition range, although it may not be as long as the manufacturer states, is still very long, at least 70 feet while going through walls. I can't wait to use it for other items. Now I wish they made a remote oven thermometer so I could monitor the temperature at different spots in my grill or smoker without removing the lid.
