Customer Review: Great at first....died too soon!

I really loved this at first. It was my first meat thermometer and it worked very well. But not even a few months old and it died on me. I thought it might be the battery and figured I could just get a new battery. When I opened it up I could not get the battery out so I could just replace it. I have never seen something where the battery is not able to come out so you can replace it. I was very disappointed and now looking for a new one to replace this. You really get what you pay for.Customer Review: But then, I still have an 8 track somewhere...

I received this thermometer as a stocking stuffer and initially,I was enthusiastic since I like to barbeque and the analog models I had were not instant response.
Unfortunately, this unit was no improvement. It might be instant response but it was rarely accurate. In a number of instances, the variation in temperature between this unit and my old thermometers was greater than 20 degrees although calibration of each unit happened at the same time.

I've used this thermometer for two years and wonder how I lived without it. (My wife says It's because I didn't cook). I use it to check my ovens; my freezer and refrigerator as well as food being cooked. Having used instant-read thermometers in my photo darkroom for years the discovery of this tool for cooking was like meeting an old and trusted friend and it hasn't let me down. A perfect example of simple technology enriching control of our lives.Customer Review: Its been flawless for me so far.

I bought one of these about 4 years ago to develop negatives (film) in my bathroom. I probably developed 40 - 50 rolls of film using it to test the temp of the various fluids and its worked without a hitch. I never got the digital head part wet at all, figuring that even if it were "water resistant" I knew better remembering all the watches I wrecked as a kid in the bath tub or swimming pool.If your nice to it, it will last you years.

These things are great and if you don't have one spend the $10 and get one. If you cook, BBQ, or anything like that, get one. They are great. The only reason for the four stars instead of five on this one is that it doesn't have a temperature guide printed on the actual thermometer case, it is printed on the packaging that it comes in. Who actually keeps the packaging? If it weren't for that it would have five stars because it works great.
