Customer Review: Annoys me every morning

In concept, this is a pretty cool item. In practice, there are two issues.
1. There is no memory if you change the target temperature of a particular tea. It has to be re-set each and every time. This is annoying.
2. All the "black tea" settings are set to start the timer at 212 degrees. Since by the time the water comes out of the pot it's already below that temperature, it's not very useful. You can make the setting lower but, again, have to do it every time.
The manual even mentions making French Press coffee at 195 degrees. Why not have a setting for that? Even better, how about a custom user setting spot? Even betterer, how about just remembering the dang changes I make? We're living in the future here people.
Anyway, despite the quirks, this is still a useful thing for those of us who don't have an electric kettle with temperature selection and who are too cool to just use a regular freakin thermometer. I'm hoping for one of those kettles as a Christmas present, but until then, I guess I'll use this thing.

Well, unfortunately I'm feeling the need to update this review and downgrade my rating (from 3 to 2 stars). My battery died, and Taylor makes it nearly impossible to put in a new one. You need to take the base apart which involves removing a minuscule, almost completely flat screw that no one over the age of 30 could even see, let alone remove. You'll also need a specialized (jeweler's?) screwdriver because the screw is so small. I'm guessing Taylor did this because they figure half the people will give up and throw the thermometer out and have to buy a new one, but I'm going back to using a regular thermometer and just having to keep my eye on it. Oh well.
