I am a cook for the US Army, and I have been using Taylor Instant-Read Dial Thermometer's for over 5 years now. It is quick reading, easy to use, and reliable. I would use this thermometer over any of the newer digital ones. Most thermometers as with most things need to be recalibrated. Taylor has supplied a calibration device on the carry case!
On top of all of the great features that the Taylor Analog Thermometer has, its also a bragain. At just $6.99 each you can not beat it!
I would recommend this product to anyone who does any type of cooking. This is ecspecially helpful when cooking Chicken, as you can test all of your piece quickly to make sure that all are done.

These seem like decent little thermometers but are not oven safe contrary to the packaging. I bought two for cooking to replace an older thermometer that is unreadable now. I read the packaging when I first got them to verify they can be used in the oven and it said they were "not safe for rotisseries or convection ovens due to high heat". As I was making chicken in a regular oven I figured it should be OK, only to find out after 45 minutes or so at 400 degrees F the plastic on the front had melted.
I am keeping the other one as it works well for checking the temperature, but don't buy one of these if you are looking for something safe up to regular oven temperatures.

Unless you are one of the gifted who can tell your food is perfectly cooked by touch, you will find this (or any high-quality) thermometer indispensable. Having family members who have different tastes in beef doneness and a fanatical devotion to making sure my chicken is fully (and safely) cooked, I've used a Taylor thermometer for years. The pocket clip makes it easy to keep on hand with you as you move to stove or grill. There may be fancier or more expensive thermometers out there, but this is a kitchen standby. You can even utilize this to gauge milk-frothing temps or bread baking temps... there are so many applications where a thermometer comes in handy.Customer Review: Sturdy thermometer, quick readings

I bought this to replace a broken thermometer - one with a glass column that was very slow to give a temperature readings. What a difference. While this thermometer is probably not unbreakable, it has no glass to shatter - and it comes with a protective sleeve (bright blue - easy to locate in a drawer full of other things) that allows me to store it with other baking supplies without worrying about breaking it. It gives readings quickly, and they seem accurate. Mostly I use it when baking breads to test the temperature of water or milk before adding yeast, but I find myself grabbing it to test the internal temperature of meats too, and it works fine.Customer Review: Indispensable kitchen tool

There may be better instant read thermometers out there, but this has always done the trick for me, whether it's testing the water in baking bread or quickly finding out whether a roast is done. Its slender needle goes into hunks of meat quickly, and the whole thing is light enough that, if you are concerned that your burgers on the grill are properly cooked, you can easily put this in your pocket as you head to the back yard. Small note of caution for other dummies like me: the dial is under a plastic window, and so the whole thing should not go -in- the oven. For that, you want a meat thermoeter with a glass face.
