Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Taylor Classic Cappuccino Frothing Dial ThermometerCustomer Review: It Works Summary: 5 Stars
As you might expect, it does in fact tell you the temperature of your milk. The clip clips nicely onto a frothing pitcher (to the person who said the clip broke when you clipped it onto a mug a few times - that's because you clipped it onto a mug a few times... it's for a frothing pitcher.) The yellow shading on the "sweet spot" of the dial is clear and useful. It's adequately responsive for the price (in my experience, lag is 3 seconds, not 7 as previous poster mentioned).
In other words, it does exactly as advertised in exactly the manner the price point indicates it would. Perfectly adequate tool for the recreational latte maker.
Customer Review: Solid Thermometer For Frothing Summary: 5 Stars
It was with some trepidation that I ordered this thermometer; I had read the review(s) stating that the lack of a 100 degree mark was a problem. I ordered anyway.
First of all, the lack of a 100 degree mark isn't a big issue. You can gauge where that is on the circle based on the length of the marks between 120 and 140.
Second of all, this thermometer has revolutionized my milk frothing. I'm actually able to know what I'm doing, and (no small thanks to my Gaggia Evolution) I'm now making beautiful microfoam, with repeatable results. The repeatability is what makes this such a great tool.
Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Improve your froth Summary: 4 Stars
Not a bad thermometer for making the perfect froth for your cappucino. Pluses: Temp range for perfect milk temperature highlighted (140-160 deg. F), reasonably priced. Minuses: It should include a plastic protector tube (to prevent inadvertant stabbings...), and it would be nice if the temp gauge went down to 80 degrees. To get a good froth, try dancing the steam wand at the top of the milk until the temp reaches 100 deg.F. As the foam rises, follow it up. At 100 deg.F, push the wand down into the milk until the temp reaches 140-160 deg.F. Have fun!
Customer Review: Excellent accessory Summary: 4 Stars
I recently got a new cappuccino maker and bought the frothing thermometer to be sure I was frothing the milk right. It's a simple and effective tool. The dial shows the optimal frothing temperature range and the clip keeps it from wandering around the frothing pitcher while you're steaming the milk. This is a quality product, fairly priced, easy to use. Note: in an earlier review, I suggested a thermometer may not be necessary if you have a lot of experience making cappuccino. I now think it is necessary, to prevent scalding the milk.
Customer Review: I'd return it but it's not worth the hassle. Summary: 1 Stars
I can't believe I bought this thing. It's body is made of plastic, the spring clip that holds the thermometer to the frothing container is too weak to securely hold the thermometer in place, the range is ridiculously narrow.
I should have looked closer before I ordered.
I have a hard time believing the other positive reviews for this piece of junk.
I guess if the only thing you have used before to check temps was your finger then this is an improvement, otherwise I would reccommend throwing it away.
