Customer Review: So far, a disappointment

The reviews of this meat thermometer made me think that this was exactly what I wanted - a thermometer that would quickly give me an accurate reading. I admit that I didn't test it before I tried it on some meat. I did as instructed and the temp. showed as way over what I wanted so I quickly took the meat out of the oven. However, the meat was just fine. (It had read the meat approximately 10 degrees too hot.) This happened twice before I went through the calibration process (testing it with ice water.) I was able to re-calibrate it within 2 tenths of a point. I will try it again the next time I have meat. Hopefully it will work as it was advertised or it will be useless to me.Customer Review: Remember When Chinese Junk Was a Ship?

This is a "Taylor" instrument in name only. It stopped working in stages after about the third use. First, the on/off was inconsistent, sometimes you had to press hard, sometimes press-and-hold, sometimes press-wait-press-wait-press-wait. Finally it stopped working altogether and, predictably, at a critical moment. I was reluctant to purchase it at first but later decided that Taylor probably wouldn't put its name on junk. Unfortunately, this time, they did. I guess you have to spend more money than this to get a reliable digital thermometer. This one certainly isn't. Not everything made in China is trash but this one was and that's where it ended up -- in the trash.Customer Review: A must have for every Chef!!!

I love this little guy!! It is one of the few thermometers that will tell you the outside temperature, while you are grilling, and give you a good excuse for another beer. :) Then you can finally grill your chicken or roasts to the proper serving temperature. It is accurate, fast, easy to read and compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket. I am a pretty good sized man and find the "little" buttons no problem to depress.
Why on earth would you ever place a plastic molded thermometer in the oven?? That is what the oven controls are for ------. However, you can always use it to probe your turkey as needed ------ but do NOT place in the oven with the bird!!!

The readings on this are certainly not instantly accurate, though they are instantly within say 5-10 degrees, it then takes 5-10s to get it perfect, its OK for what I use it for though.
My biggest problem with this thermometer, is that it bills itself as waterproof, and it most certainly isn't. It might be water resistant, but certainly not water proof. After two washings, it still works, but the screen has condensation and discoloration inside it, making it nearly illegible. I have added a very clear custom image of what it looks like, I urge you to take a look before buying.

I've owned other Taylor digital thermometers in the past. But after dropping my old thermometer many times into the liquid I was trying to measure; it met with a slow death. I was in the market for a waterproof thermometer. I'm hooked on digital quick reading thermometers and I like this particular model because of it's easy readouts and controls. The hole built into the cover is a great convenient and helps lessen my tendency to drop things. By pushing the probe through the hole it gives you a handle to better hold the thermometer with your hand away from the hot liquids. I liked this model so much I bought three and used them as stocking stuffers.
