Summary: The metal tip malfunctioned in the heat of a BBQ. Don't buy this.
I bought this device at Tuesday Morning, not Amazon - same model number and looks identical. It is conceivable that it's not exactly the same as what is sold on Amazon - but probably is. With that disclaimer out of the way I was excited to use this for cooking a Rib Roast on my weber BBQ. After setting it all up it worked fine for about 1 hour, temperature reading slowly going up like it should up to about 100F. Then suddenly the temp spiked to 225F. Fortunately, that was not the real temperature of my beef but I had found the true temperature was closer to 130F when this occured.
I found the metal tip of the thermometer had some red liquid oozing out near the flexible wire. Obviously, something in the metal tip couldn't take the 350F degree weber. After this happened the temperature reading was always about 100 degrees off. The package says you can leave this in what you are cooking - obviously not!

Uses 2 "AAA" batteries (not included)This digital device lets you monitor the internal temperature of a roast and time the potatoes simultaneously. The sharp stainless-steel probe (which comes with a silicone cover for safe handling) may be inserted into the meat and the oven door closed over the four-foot cord, which plugs into the thermometer. Set the desired 'done' temperature, and the beeper will sound when the target is reached. Or, detach the cord and probe and simply use the device as a timer, handy to carry in your pocket or clip to a belt when in other parts of the house where the oven's own timer alarm can't be heard. Both functions operate independently.
