This would be a great butter dish if the grooves on the lid were orientated parallel to the top and bottom, rather than perpendicular. A butter dish gets slippery for obvious reasons and the direction of the grooves coupled with the fact that the cover is tapered means that it's practically impossible to pick up with one hand. If you use it upside down (dish part as the lid), then it's much easier to take off the lid but harder to get nice slices of butter.
The size is perfect, it can hold a doublewide (1/2 lb) stick of butter with no problem, and can probably hold a one pound block of butter as well (I haven't tried). It goes in the dishwasher and comes out perfect.
But, since I'm tired of nearly dropping the lid or having to use two hands to open it, I'm looking for another butter dish and will probably get a stainless steel one with a handle on top.
