We have had an Oster long slot toaster for several years and when it started to do strange things we decided it was time to replace it. Using Consumers Report and the reviews on Amazon as a guide, we decided to try the T-Fal 4 slice digital toaster. Noting that no toaster, regardless of price, was a standout, we hoped for the best. This was not a disappointment. It has performed well under all sorts of toasting chores from bagels and muffins to thin sliced deli rye. While it is not "perfect" we think it is a very good buy and performer. We highly recommend it.Customer Review: Terrific Toaster

This is a great toaster, especially for the price. I really like the two long-slot style, all bread fits and it doesn't take up my entire countertop. We do a lot of toast and bagels at my house, and all have been toasted evenly. You do need to use a lower setting, something I expected from a new toaster. I like how it beeps when it's ready to pop the toast, and the "defrost" and "bagel" settings are useful. Overall, I'd say this is a really good toaster--so many on the market are just terrible. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new toaster.Customer Review: Space saver

I chose this model because it's oriented length-wise and all the controls are on the front, so it fits into the narrow counter space my old toaster came out of. For that alone it gets 3 stars. As some others have said, this toaster REALLY toasts, but if you use a very low setting (like 2) it does fine. I like that the bagel feature toasts the inside while leaving the outside soft, and it's nice to be able to raise items up out of the toaster so you don't have to touch the hot parts. After doing some homework, I decided to pull the trigger on the T-fal. On setting "3" the toast burns. I am afraid to try it on "8". It actually toasts alright on setting "1", but the toast is a golden to medium brown and really leaves no option for lighter toast.
I called T-fal and they want to go through a whole warranty, shipping process. They will not replace it. They want me to send it back to Amazon basically. I'll try an exchange to see if we got a dud. We'll see if the new one performs any better.

Toaster has settings 1-8 for how brown you want your toast. On a normal, plain ol slice of bread the 1 setting isn't enough but the 2 is too much and it burns the edges of the toast.
I like the way the toaster is designed. The slots are nice and wide for bagels and plenty of room for 4 pieces of toast at once. I like the bread lifter so you dont burn your fingers trying to get your toast out. I am just unhappy with the fact that in the long run, I want a tasty piece of toast and this toaster just burns it.
