Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of T-Fal Vitesses 1.7L (7-Cup) Electric KettleCustomer Review: T-Fal Electric Kettle rocks! Summary: 5 Stars
T-Fal BF6520004 Vitesse 1.7L Electric Kettle
This is an awesome kettle. It heats water quickly and efficiently. Many more uses than just for a cup of tea. When you cook pasta, use this kettle to boil the water. Then pour the water into your pasta pot, and cook your pasta on the stove as usual. More efficient and much quicker way to boil the water. Two full kettles of water will be enough for 1# of pasta.
If you've never used an electric kettle, know that it makes noise. Think of the noise as the whistle on a stove-top tea kettle. The difference being that the stove-top kettle keeps whistling until you turn off the flame. The electric kettle quits making noise and turns itself off when it comes to a boil. How cool (pun intended) is that!
Customer Review: Solid Thus Far Summary: 4 Stars
Years ago, my mother purchased an electric tea kettle that I never particularly cared for. It took up too much space on the counter, had to be manually turned off, and it was difficult to clean--the only opening was the spout (as I recall, heating coils were inside the unit). I purchased the T-Fal electric kettle after burning a few pans full of water meant for tea. Research brought me to this gem of a tea kettle. I've had it a week thus far. The water warms or boils to three different temperatures, according to my needs. I can rely on it to turn off when it reaches the desired temperature, so it has safety built in and I can feel confident that I won't ruin another of my best pans. It's relatively compact--the cord for the heating stand can be as long or short as I need. The top of the kettle opens, making it easy to clean. What more could you want?
Customer Review: The main selling point is inaccurate, misleading Summary: 4 Stars
I am a huge tea drinker and as you know, there are two key temperatures in the tea world: less than boiling (180F) and boiling (212). As far as I know, there are only two readily available variable temperature electric kettles on the market - the T-Fal Vitesse and one from Adagio Teas. I chose the former and have been using it for about 7 months.
I assumed that since water can't get hotter than 212F, the highest (most right) setting would correspond to that. So the middle had to be roughly 180. I've brewed dozens of cups of tea, some for guests, some very expensive with this assumption.
Today I brought in a thermometer and found the following:
Low - 175 F
Medium - 212 F
High - 212 F
This is outrageous! Why make a product that is not truly variable or accurate and sell it as such?
Customer Review: Strong Plastic Aftertaste and Smell Summary: 1 Stars
We used this kettle for making everyday green/black tea, and occasional coffee.
Unfortunately, after 3 months of use, the water coming out of this kettle stinks of melted plastic and has a bit of a chemical aftertaste. I emailed T-FAL numerous times, with no response. Do not make the same mistake we did, if you intend to actually drink this water and taste/smell matters to you at all.
The strong points of this kettle is that it looks good, has water temperature control, and boils the water really fast. Excellent price too!
Anyone still want it? You pay shipping and its yours for free. ;)
Update: I returned this tea kettle to manufacturer and they shipped me a brand new one, free of charge. I'll give it a try eventually, when my current one break down...
Customer Review: excellent buy Summary: 5 Stars
I got tired of waiting and waiting for the kettle to boil on the stove. While in France came across this brand on a smaller scale in the hotels
and became instantly enamored. came home bought this one and use it 8-10 times daily, no more running to turn the whistle off, this one automatically turns off when water ready. If I don't get there in time no problem just press the button and wait a minute or two and i am back up to a steaming cup of tea.
Bought one for my daughter at college, she loves the cordless ease as well. If you use filtered water, you do not have to worry about the deposit stains as much.
they do not affect the taste whatsoever. The handle stays cool to touch but the body still gets somewhat hot, need to keep away from small kids.
cleans up easily and looks nice on the counter.
