Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of T-Fal Avante Elite 6 Slice Convection & Toaster Oven with Separate Warming CompartmentCustomer Review: Great quality & performance Summary: 5 Stars
[4/6/2010] 3+ years later, this toaster oven is still working great. Never one single problem and everything functions as new. It is still used almost every day.
UPDATE: Moister accumulates on the top glass and eventually discolors. I'm still glad I bought a T-Fal, but wish I got a model without the top glass.
This toaster oven delivers top quality. We use it almost every day. Every time, the end result is perfection. It never burns, but cooks just right. The digital timer is a great feature.
Cons: It can be a bit noisy during convection cooking. Also, it has an unusual appearance (prob European styled). But, due to its performance, I'd buy it again without reserve.
PS: Our previous DeLonghi toaster was horrible. It looked great but burned everything 20% of the time. In fact, due to poor engineering, it almost burned our house down... Do a Google for DeLonghi fire and recall... you'll get the drift. Because DeLonghi refuses to recall faulty toasters, I'm boycotting everything DeLonghi.
Customer Review: Nice oven Summary: 4 Stars
Nov 2008 update: Electronics are awful!! After 3 months we can't get this to work. I guess the best thing I can say is it stays cool. I'd change my star to 1, but I can't edit that part.
We bought two different brands - Oster and Cuisinart - before deciding on this one. The Oster was a nice looking appliance, but it got extremely HOT and the Cuisinart got hot as well, and had nothing to offer for the money (no auto shut-off or timer - what's with THAT?!). We decided to try this one because the reviews claimed it didn't get as hot as most others; and we are very happy so far. We use it primarily to toast (drier than traditional toasters but quite adequate) and as a small oven to heat up frozen foods instead of turning on our big oven. We're happy with the performance and love that we don't think it will burn the walls from the heat - it doesn't get anywhere near as hot as the two others we tried. Our biggest problem was the heat these things generate but this one doesn't and we are happy with the performance so far.
Customer Review: Fabulous toaster oven Summary: 5 Stars
The professional reviewers endorsed the Krups toaster oven but I thought it was flimsy and not well made. After much research, I decided to try this oven without seeing it. I wanted something that was stylish and solid, as well as, cooks well. The T-Fal model surpassed all my expectations. I am so thrilled with the results. This oven is very sleek. I was first drawn to it because of the bun warmer. My kids love rolls and bread items, and I thought that this machine would be excellent for quick fixes. This oven does so much more. I have cooked a turkey breast to perfection in it! My toast is uniformly browned on both sides and tastes wonderful. I rarely use my large convection oven now because the T-Fal is capable of cooking everything! Baked potatoes, sandwiches, pizza bread, pork loin all cooked perfectly in this machine (while bread was warmed on top!). The crumb tray is accesible from the front and keeps the inside spotless. I have recommended this as my "new favorite toy" to all my friends. It is well worth the money.
Customer Review: Excellent item suits me to a T (fal) Summary: 4 Stars
I had been shopping for a toaster oven for some time, mostly because I prefer this kind of toast to the pop-up toaster type. I thought it might also be handy for the occasional extra oven to meet the demands of holiday meals, etc.. I find myself using it for the second purpose more than I ever imagined.
Make sure you get the model with the convection feature; it's totally gorgeous for roasting vegs and baking potatoes, and for browning the tops of gratins. Better than my full size gas oven. Really. Which makes it a fabulous device for the price, in my book.
The warming tray on top is okay, but not a particular thrill for me- I think I'd rather do without and have it take less space. But this is not a serious problem at all. The bottom removeable tray is easy to clean of crumbs. I have not figured out how to keep the glass door truly cleaned up- it always remains a bit smeary looking, no matter what product I use. I can live with that, though.
I threw out the old toaster, and I'm not sorry.
Customer Review: Quantum leap in toaster oven technology Summary: 4 Stars
Thru the years I've owned GE, Black & Decker, deLonghi and most recently Krups toaster ovens and use them daily. All had significant deficiencies; uneven heat, unpredictable toast, dangerously hot casing, "quartz" elements with guards that would trap grease and catch fire (!).
The engineers at T-Fal (or Groupe S.E.B of France which also owns Krups) have designed a versatile, qulaity toaster oven which is truly a large oven replacement within the confines of it's size. I needn't go into all the details, as I agree completely with the 30 Nov. review by "amanooesis."
The heating elements are small versions of that found in conventional ovens, and the overall quality seems very high (although I was disappointed to see that it was made in China rather than France as other Tefal appliances were).
This oven is good value if compared with other convection toaster ovens like the Krups, and has the additional benefit of handsome design and an extra warming oven.
