Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of T-Fal Avante Deluxe 4-Slice Toaster, BlackCustomer Review: Very nice toaster, it even defrosts! Summary: 5 Stars
I would recommend this toaster to anyone. First, the ONLY drawback is it is a bit larger than most (larger "footprint). But it fits very nicely in the corner of a counter. It has easy cleanup, with nice slideout bins under both sides. Toasts nicely and quickly. Even has a defrost setting which is nice (although I rarely use this). The center levers pop the toast up out of the toaster nicely so you don't have to "dig" although the slots are so nice and wide, it's easy to get toast out. I love the bagel setting, FINALLY I don't have to SQUISH my bagels to toast them (or drag out my much larger toaster oven!). Also, I like the wide opening to insert your bread, even when you don't have it on "bagel" setting...the plates just close around the bread once you begin the toasting...very nice, especially when you have curled bread!
The temperature setting knobs are great and I love the pusbutton in the middle of each to pop your toast up early if you like. The temperature settings seem to be quite consistent, which I've never found in a regular "older fashioned" 2-slice toaster. It looks very nice and modern on my counter and matches my stainless steel and black appliances beautifully. I used to "hide" my other toaster in the cupboard, but this one deserves a place on the counter. Once you see it in person, and try it, I know you'll like it. Very good quality. And the two SEPARATE operational sides were very well thought out. Sometimes you don't need FOUR slices toasted and sometimes you do! Overall, EXCELLENT, and recommended. It's worth the price, especially if you get free shipping with Amazon!
Customer Review: Im Luvin It! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this product to replace a toaster oven we had been given for a housewarming gift. The toaster oven couldn't toast anything to save itself and got VERY HOT to the touch, and since we have a new little one in the house I didn't want any accidents.
I agree with the previous review in the respect that it is a little larger than a standard toaster, but it is very well built. You'd hope so for a T-FAL right?!
However, I think this little toaster does a remarkable job toasting. I made sure to read the instruction booklet before I used. In fact I read it 3 times just to make sure I wasn't going to blow the toaster or the house up. I definitely recommend doing the "warming up" cycles before actual use. It makes sure all the rubber smell from the parts being brand spanking new is baked off before you put food in it. It will smell horrible- but trust me, it doesn't explode!
I tried a piece of wheat bread from Publix and found a 2 to be pretty decent (I don't like mine blackened like a charcoal briquette). I also put a Thomas Plain Bagel in it. I set it to 3 and used the bagel button. It came out perfect for a traditional bagel toasting- crispy inside and slightly soft on the outside. If you don't like your bagels this way you may just want to toast it and skip the bagel button all together. I haven't had the chance to use it for anything else yet.
Overall it's a great toaster. It's more expensive than I would have liked- but since it actually does what it's supposed to I don't mind!! If you're thinking about this one go ahead and get it.
Customer Review: Really wanted the 5-star one Summary: 1 Stars
I had done so much research on toasters that my husband started making fun of me. Based on the stellar reviews, I was happy to finally settle on the T-Fal, but unfortunately I had the same experience as S. Sherman and Pat "Pretty Old Dolly" - uneven toasting, one-sided toasting, where's the high speed?, etc. I really think it's just a luck of the draw with the individual toaster you receive and so I am in the process of receiving a replacement. Also I DO believe in second chances with some things, so am hoping for better results the next time. UPDATE: No such luck -- same problems with the second toaster (see my photos on this product's main page). The left side of toaster was not too bad; however, as you can see from the photos, there is a definite malfunction here with the right side of the toaster (bottom row of toast). Who wants to be flipping bread all morning in a busy household of five? Not me! Also, while the bread was "down," I stepped away and when the toast popped up, one of the pieces literally FLEW out of the toaster and plopped onto the floor. One disadvantage I guess of those angled slots. Too bad I don't have a dog (or a so-clean-you-can-eat-off-of-it-floor), right? So, it's another return and I'm off to Walmart for a GE 4-slicer recommended to me by my BFF, Susan. I even tried it out at her house. Thanks, Susan.
Customer Review: Not that great... Summary: 3 Stars
I agonized when my reliable, old, Black & Decker toaster got a piece of bread stuck in the bottom (thanks to my dear husband)--that trusty toaster was great. The only thing I didn't like about that old toaster was that to get it to 'stop' mid-cycle I had to unplug it.
So, the T-Fal's feature of the 'cancel button' sounded like a dream come true. It is a nice feature, but it doesn't off-set the other negatives. The biggest negative is that it takes forever to toast; AND it toasts unevenly...only the left side compartments have the 'bagel feature', but sometimes (not consistently) the right side will give you the 'one side only' toasting. So, toasting is like gambling...will it toast evenly today?? Also, the feature that 'raises' the toast is silly...it's so deep that even when you raise it, a Thomas' English Muffin barely peeks out; It took us many attempts to figure out what was the right setting for our preference...ugh. It's toast for crying out loud...it shouldn't be this hard.
Some reviewers complained about the size--it's not as big as they say, so don't let that concern you.
Although it looks nice, I have a feeling that the $20.00 toaster at Costco wouuld've done just as good a job.
I think paid too much for this. :(
Customer Review: Size versus Functionality Summary: 2 Stars
Yes the people at T-Fal have managed to fool me again. Amazing what brand recognition will do for you. Here they have combined the size of a Buick with the
functionality of the Ford Pinto. This thing is so big that if you do not have a VERY large kitchen(think the Rose Bowl)it will dwarf any other appliance you have. I store "IT" in a separate room and only take it out when I need poorly made toast. Oh yeah , it also sucks as a toaster. It has a separate lever to pop the toast out after it is finished unevenly toasting. God help you if you don't have the correct size bread. Regluar bread like "Wonder" gets semi toasted and if you use the Premium brands - those slices are just a hair too big for the slots - but they can be forced and then they shrink enough from the toasting process by using the handy toast extractor lever. I bought three of these of which 1 was for me and two were for Christmas gifts. Unfortunately my friends homes were not big enough to contain them so I sent two back and kept the one for me cause I have extra space as I live alone. I had a 9 dollar Black and Decker which worked perfectly until the cat knocked it off the countertop. The side panel came off so I treated myself to this... please come back my sweet little toaster :(((((( .
