Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of T-Fal 7845100A 7-Cup Vitesse High Speed KettleCustomer Review: This baby is sweet Summary: 5 Stars
Once in a while, you run across a kitchen utensil that is not only handy, but makes a task a joy. This is one of those items. It is fun to take ice cold water out of the Brita Water Filter-Pitcher that is in the refrig, and pour it into the Vitesse High Speed Kettle. No sooner do you flick the button on, in what seems like an instant, you hear it working. The next moment you hear the rolling boil, and the top on button pops indicating it is done, which automatically shuts it off. Takes only a minute. Saves a lot of time when you want to make a cup of tea. This makes short of a lot of work. It has a 7 cup capacity, but I have never used it for that much. Two cups, doesn't seem to take additional time, although with a stop watch, I'm sure it does. Additionally, it is really nice to have the base stay on the counter, and the pitcher be able to be removed. No switch, or button to push. It just sits there by gravity, and effortlessly lifts off by simply picking it up. You can use the pitcher on your counter top, or table because the bottom does not get hot on the outside. The plastic outer shell extends down to a lip that runs all around the outside. Like if you put a cup upside down, only the outside would be touching the counter. Convenience, price, great engineering, all make the Vitesse High Speed Kettle a winner to buy. It is almost as much fun as the Black and Decker cordless can opener. Hope this was helpful.
Customer Review: As good as everyone else here says! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had one of these for almost 2 years and I decided I had to write in to vote for it as one of the greatest little kitchen appliances around. Some key points:
* Higher wattage than many other units, so it heats much faster.
* The style of the pitcher is very nice; easy to handle and pour.
* Ease of removing it from the base is just great.
* The heating element is UNDER the stainless steel base at the bottom of the kettle. This is important because your water only touches the hot stainless steel and the plastic shell. I've had a bad experience with units with a coiled-up chrome-plated element that sits in the water (visible inside the kettle.) After a while, the unit started corroding and flakes of plating came off in the water -- yechh! This can never happen to this T-Fal unit because of the way it's made.
Overall, highly recommended.
[I'm sure nobody is reading this old review anymore, but here is an update from 5 years later! So, I've had this thing in service for 7 years now!]
After 7 years, still works great, good as new! Maybe have to wipe some dust off the outside sometime. That's about it -- this thing is one of the best small appliances I have ever owned. Just reliable hot water, no problems; what more could you want?
Customer Review: Great buy for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this kettle from Amazon probably a year ago, and it's served me perfectly ever since. The only two things that I was a little disappointed about when I first got the kettle were the color of the buttons (gray instead of yellow as it was shown in the picture), and the fact that it didn't have an ON light indicator. The latter was only a problem because I sometimes unplug the kettle and forget about it, then when I press the button to turn it on, I don't realize that it's not on until I check on it a few minutes later and the water is still cold. However, I got used to not having the ON light quickly and it hasn't been a problem ever since. I still give it 5 stars, as for the amount of money I paid for it I got quite a lot - the high quality with which this appliance is built, the size, the speed, the easy to read water level window, the separate base. And it's a beauty too. If you are willing to spend more money on a tea kettle, you can go with a more expensive model that will have a convenient ON light indicator. If not, trust me - you will not regret buying this model.
Update: I bought the kettle in 2002, it is 2007 now and it still works great and looks like new.
Customer Review: A bubbling kettle of delight Summary: 5 Stars
Who knew that I could get such pleasure out of an appliance that boils water? The T-Fal Kettle is one of those simple joys in life that we should all appreciate. I use this kettle 2-3 times a day for tea, but have also discovered how much time I save when I use it for cooking as well. Now if I am making mashed potatoes or pastas, I simply boil the water in the kettle and then dump it into the pot. Time saved: about 12 minutes that it used to take to bring to a boil on the stovetop. You must forgive my ignorance on the subject of kettles, but I am an American and never saw the need for an electric kettle until moving to the UK where every household has one. When I moved away, I actually missed this handy gadget and had to purchase a new one. Another tip for those of you wondering what to do to rid yourself of mineral deposits...You must descale your kettle! To do this, I recommend using white vinegar: Fill the kettle with about 2 cups of strong white vinegar. Leave to soak for 1 hour without boiling. Then, discard the mixture. Rinse the kettle with clear water four - five times before using. This should help your kettle have a nice long life!
Customer Review: Very Solid Product Summary: 4 Stars
I shopped online for a while to get an electric tea kettle. We were tired of having the old kettle take up one burner of the stove all the time. We are very pleased with the kettle. Unlike some of the others, it is set up so that you don't have to worry about how you place it on its base. You just fill it, put it down on the base and press a very ergonomic trigger button on the handle. The kettle turns itself off when the water is boiling. All in all, pretty idiot proof. The water boils very quickly--it's much quicker than heating water on the stove. The only question we have is how the heating element will hold up. The metal element inside the kettle is starting to get some mineral deposits on it, and it's unclear how this will affect the kettle. (Probably all electric kettles have this issue.) Meanwhile we are quite enjoying it. I also purchased the 4 cup version for my office and that has worked out quite well also. I don't have to make my tea with the water that comes through our crummy old office coffee machine anymore!
