You had me at "German Surgical Steel Blades."
It's light, yet stays in place. It's long enough to put over your pan to let the cuttings fall out. It can cut veggies like a dozen different ways.
It comes in a handy sheath that wall-mounts or stands tall and holds the two other blade attachments.
It saves SO much time, and I quit using knives/cutting board to cut veggies. This provides perfect, EASY, uniform slices every time, and at twice the speed. Plus, it just makes it plain fun. And it just rinces clean with ease.
This product cannot be more highly recommended and should be essential in all households unless you have a severe chance of a kid finding it and playing with it (or if you're just super accident prone from not paying attention). The blades are explosed once out of the safety sheath and are SHARP. Use the hand guard.

I purchased the V-Slicer over ten years ago and it has been a faithful companion in the kitchen. The speed with which it slices/dices onions makes it more than worth the price. You can make french fries or julienne fries, onion rings, scalloped potatoes, carrot or celery sticks...the list is endless! Cleanup is no more than a rinse under water. The safety holder ensures that you won't be suffering any mishaps. But for safety's sake, keep this appliance away from the kids. The blades are VERY SHARP and can deliver a nasty cut if you don't handle them carefully. For that reason, I never wash them in the sink where suds can hide them and risk injury. But these warnings aside, this is a wonderful and versatile tool. It is as useful as a mandoline at a fraction of the price. You will reach for it often and the V-Slicer will be one of your favorite and most used kitchen tools.Customer Review: Nice Slicer but be careful

I loved my v-slicer when I had it. I would use it all the time to cut up onions, make chips, etc. It worked beautifully. Unfortunately, one time I needed to use it, and I couldn't find the safety holder. Seeing professional chefs use mandolines all the time without a holder, I decided to try it. Everything was going great, until I felt a sharp brief pain. I sliced off a bit of the padding on my middle finger! There was blood everywhere! A quick trip to the ER took care of everything, although I still carry around the scar. Needless to say, I learned my lesson. No slicing without the safety holder!
On a more dismal note, after about two years of constant use, food became harder to cut on the slicer. More muscle had to be used to get even simple things like tomatoes sliced. I finally had to toss it. That's a shame because I really liked it. Hence the three stars.

Upon reading other reviews I placed order for this unit. When it arrived I was dismayed at what you get for this money. Upon using I became more dismayed as the unit is almost impossible to use. The food drags on the slide. Using the holder helps move the food but it only cuts about half way down and then you are left with the other half to cut by hand with a knife and cutting board. Kind of defeats the purpose. Plastic is flimsy and distorts when food is pushed through causing irregular cuts. For this much money much improvement is expected. I don't recommend. In fact I returned this and got a Bron which is the original mandoline maker. Will see how that works when it arrives. A cutting board and knife would be faster and easier to clean than this plastic thing. Yes this item slices like a hot knife through soft butter but will do the same with your finger.
I was in the ER for 3 hours last night as the Doc. reattached the tip of my index finger. I admit I thought I could do a couple of test slices of a potato but, even sliced long way the slicer got my finger. DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT A SINGLE SLICE WITHOUT THE HOLDER.... Also the directions are confusing and it will take you 10 minutes to figure out how to use the V-Slicer although I'm certain once you get the hang of it you'll be quicker.
Please be careful even with the holder, as the former demo fellow said, he even lost a finger tip after years of demos because his hand was wet and he slipped.
One more thing the ER Doc. said I wouldn't believe the number of patients he had with the same injury from the same
