Buy it Now. Right NOW. I'm not kidding.

This kitchen tool replaces at least a half dozen separate cooking/prep gadgets you've got but does even more, better, and way way faster. I mean, I'd actually choose it over my dishwasher and while that may be extreme, I believe that anybody who tried both, like me, would prefer the V-slicer to those $100 and up stainless steel mandolins (except aesthetically, of course).

Rather than a disadvantage, switching from one slicing unit or attachment to another is easier than adjusting and readjusting your mandolin for different thicknesses and or foods (once you get the hang of sliding them in and out, which was so simple it took me a while). Plus there's less rinsing off in between. Plus you and your v-slicing husband or wife or lover can work it so you both V-slice at the same time!

I have two additional Borner pieces apart from the package I'm reviewing, not that you need them, but they're fun to have and all together take up only a bit more space than a quart-sized milk carton. And you'll make excuses to use them all!

I don't dare put mine in the dishwasher because my husband and I snack a LOT as do our dogs and we almost always want it again before the cycle's through!

First thing you'll do is probably start making real French Fries, because in five minutes at most a whole bag of Idahos is ready to dump into the deep fryer and they'll be delicious. Then you'll do it again. And again. But eventually you'll be out of potatoes and have to use the V-Slicer for something else, at which point, your health and looks take a radical turn toward the better.

Who knew uncooked but long-in-the-tooth leftover holiday sweet potatoes taste like heaven raw if you grate them? Oh my God, I had nothing to bring to a dinner party, the liquor store was closed, no leftover Christmas presents or wrapping paper but I rooted around the kitchen and found these sweet potatoes and:
macintosh apples
really really too dried coconut from a health food store bin.
walnuts, ginger, olive oil, a fresh lemon, Mongolian fire sauce which we'd never used before (tastes like chile oil), Olive oil (I didn't have coconut oil)and xylitol, aka birch sugar, which tastes just like sugar and is safe in any quantity for pregnant women and children under two, even.

The process took under ten minutes, maybe under five and hot damn, the other guests at dinner couldn't get enough, asked what was in it, treating me like some kind of Julia Child.

Which my husband thought was funny, as he'd have eaten frosted wheat that night as he has on many other nights, if we hadn't been invited out.

Except no more frosted wheat! A lot less take-out! WAY WAY less meat! And our can opener can practically retire! In fact, we're at least fifty percent raw food and the dogs may be 90 per cent (granted, maybe a third of their 90 percent is meat, but it's raw meat, since we did a bit of research on raw food diets for pets).

Not only the dogs meals but our meals cost less partly because prepared foods are pricey, partly because we find we like different foods, partly because there's less waste as you don't leave stuff that's so much fun and so quick to 'slice' in the refrigerator to go bad.

Granted, we ate lots of junk before as I rarely took time to cook but even if you still eat sit down dinners you'll almost certainly get healther, feel better and look younger (I think -- hard to tell as nobody's going to tell you different and nobody thinks they look their actual age). However:

My wonderful huge pit-bull mix Tony's huge plaque build up which the vet was going to remove under anesthesia, GONE, and God knows we didn't brush his teeth! And wait, there's more!

Elvis, our other mutt who looked like Wily Coyote with a hangover, was mistaken on the street for some kind of fancy pedigreed Belgian herder dog by two different unrelated people!
He had been chronically underweight before, now he's got this great big massive chest which I wish would happen to me, but so far all I've grown is more hair, lots more -- on my head. And it's not fine anymore. Which is weird as I'm 46 and it was thin, not think before. Although I'd still rather have boobs. But at least they probably look younger than they did, presuming the rest of my body does, as I strongly suspect, but cannot prove scientifically.

But no kidding about the V-slicer. No matter how many kitchen gadgets you've bought and don't use, THIS KITCHEN GADGET IS IT!!!

I mean, I take mine with me, when I travel out of town now and can't wait to go to Europe with it. Stick the V-slicer, a few bucks worth of bounty from the local market, a bottle of olive oil (and/or wine) in your backpack and you've got a delicious meal to take hiking that won't slow you down coming back!

This may sound absurd, but when I do go, I'll probably hit Germany now, largely because that's where the Borner company which makes the V-slicer is made and they probably have other models and attachments they don't sell on export which I could get on a factory tour. Provided the factory's not too out of the way and the line's not too long, like it was at the Vatican.

An inexpensive alternative to a professional stainless-steel mandoline, this device makes it possible to quickly, uniformly, and safely slice and julienne vegetables and fruits.
