Customer Review: GREAT - GREAT AND THEN SOME!
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased one of these and used it for over three years before the dishwasher bounced it around one-too-many times and split the filter media in several places. Still, over three years, I saved a little money over paper filters and kept a lot of paper out of the waste stream.

SwissGold is THE premier maker of non-disposable products. The mesh is just the right size for keeping your morning joe from getting "muddied" yet allows more of the true aromas and tastes to filter through. A paper filter traps a lot of these and prevents the true "coffee" from presenting itself. I use fresh roasted beans, ground coarse, from all over the world and if I forget to clean my gold filter and resort to using a paper one, there is a distinct taste difference. If you find yourself in this position, use a brown or unbleached paper filter, unless you want chlorine-tasting brew.

There is no doubt that the mesh in this product is somewhat fragile. To prevent damage, just wash it by hand or use some liquid dish soap and an old used toothbrush, which works great. I have a special place in my dishwasher when it needs a good cleaning but I rinse it out after with good, clean hot water and let it air dry. If you use this product AND pick the proper size, you will not be disappointed.

Customer Review: best coffee filter in the world
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased two of these coffee filters last month. We have used this type of filter for about years. It had become a little frayed around the edges after daily hand washings and a once a week bath in the dishwasher. It is an amazing filter... there is nothing else on the market that does as good a job of filtering the coffee grounds with no bits of coffee getting through into the pot. It does a far better job than the other "gold" and stainless steel filters on the market and far outperforms the paper kind. We bought two, one to replace the old one and one to put in our new Cuisinart coffee maker at our holiday home. Yes, it costs much more than any of the others but it will far outlive anything else while doing a superior job. Beware any others that claim to be 'gold' because the mesh on those is too coarse and not engineered to filter properly.
Well worth the extra cost.

Customer Review: Much better tasting coffee, but use it with a burr grinder!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love the taste of coffee much better using the gold filter than with paper filters (I make drip coffee in a Technivorm Moccamaster CD).

The only "catch" is that with more of the oils and flavor from the coffee coming through this filter, some very fine coffee dust comes with it. The result is some "sludge" in the bottom of the cup.

I am using a cheaper blade grinder (Cuisinart DCG-12BC Grind Central Coffee Grinder) to grind my beans, which leads to grounds of varied sized (from "dust" to "boulders"). A burr grinder (such as Baratza Maestro PLUS Conical Burr Coffee Grinder) In Black - G385) would make much more even sized grounds, and once I start using one, the sludge should go away.

Alas, I am one step closer to home coffee nirvana!

Customer Review: Swiss Gold - The best coffee filter
Summary: 5 Stars

We had an old Swiss Gold filter that was labelled "Braun by Swiss Gold" for Braun coffee filters and after 2 decades of use, it developed cracks in the mesh - possibly from careless washing or banging it to get the grounds out. I was frustrated by the new Braun filters available - they are gold colored metal mesh but don't last and rust quickly. After a little research, I discovered that Swiss Gold filters still fit. The Swiss Gold filters are not cheap like the Braun filters at Walmart, but worth the money. It should last a long time with gentle cleaning - no banging on the edge of a trash can or compost container to dump the old grounds. Clive Coffee had the best price on the internet thru Amazon and shipped very quickly. The filter is great and I will be looking at other products sold by Clive Coffee.

Customer Review: overhyped
Summary: 3 Stars

I have owned a few of these over the years, and frankly, they are overhyped. The best thing that can be said of them is that they are much easier to deal with than paper filters - rinse them out, and you're done. I have yet to see one that isn't bent up before it's even taken out of the package, and they are damaged easily. I have to assume that the reason they cost more than twice as much as other similar filters is the gold plating. They let far more sediment through than they should for the price, otherwise - about on par with the cheapie knockoffs. I don't mind the sludge as much as many people, but for the amount that ends up in my cup, I'd rather have french press coffee. That said, I'll probably stick with them, if only for the convenience factor described earlier.
